Do you purposefully go off topic if so why?

For me sometimes I get frustrated when a thread is suppose to be about one thing however will diverge into something else. Some people go off topic to annoy, others to prove a point. I know I go off topic at times and mainly it is to prove a point. I honestly do not try to annoy anyone. But there are those who will do it. Good or bad I guess all relative.

What do you think?

I try to not go off topic but I do from time to time.
However I try to stay on topic as much as possible!

At times people even post WITHOUT caring what the topic is about... now THAT is worse...

I have a head, a very busy head and it goes everywhere with me.

Sing with me!

(:p Nah, I don't purposely go off-topic. But sometimes I just can't help myself.)

I just repped you amo so I can't rep this one. But I want to! :cute:

Perfect!

Conversations evolve and people like to compare things to other things and put things within wider contexts. Staying strictly on-topic is like dancing in a straightjacket.

But I guess the mods need to keep things from getting too wild. So I sympathize with them when they take out my non-monominded posts! :p

Yeah, I agree with Ammonia, I think "off topic" is sometimes an excuse to remove posts that someone just doesn't like. The thing is, most threads begin with a question, and what follows is a lot more interesting if it becomes a conversation instead of just a list of short answers. Sure, sometimes a new subject then comes up that's worth a new thread by itself, but there's no reason to delete members' thoughts from a thread.

The only useless posts really are the ones that say "I agree :):(:help::o:50bz::p" or "memberx said it all.."....er...so if they said it, why post? Add a proper comment at least...and if it's "I agree", explain why!

"Off topic" is an over-used term in this forum. Things should be allowed to flow a bit more I think!

^^^Interesting. I guess you have to establish a connection to the original post and let it evolve from there.

I don’t participate much in the English Sabla but I read almost all the posts and it is quite annoying when I get so intense with the topic then I read a post stating off topic has been deleted. Seriously, I feel like I have missed out on something interesting and wonder what it was all about.

Honestly, I feel when an off topic occurs, it is mostly because there is an intense debate going on a particular subject and mods kill all the excitement when they delete the off topics.

The worst is when you get a whole page full of posts that are almost word-for-word the same answer to the question. It's a teenagery thing I suppose, bloody conformist kids. :p

i try to not go off topic.. but as u said, sometimes it starts with a question but more intresting things come up n a heated argument is up ( which r all offtopics ) but somehow they r related to the original question..

i enjoy reading how the subject evolves from 1 thing to the other..

They don't annoy me...they used to when I was a mod, but now I really don't care. If I like the topic and there are off topic posts, I'll just ignore them and post my opinion about the topic, if I don't like the topic, but I like the off topic posts, I'll add to the number of off topics :p

i think you can tell where someone is going off topic by accident (like words flow from one post to another) or goes off topic just to pi$$ you off....like when a girl gets murdered by her daddy and someone goes 'oh hahha how funny, this is hilarious blah blah and a few :p to boot.
or when every world situation topic flows down to america by default.

i think the one track minded people (monosomthing people) are those who make every single topic divert towards their own agenda, and not willing to discuss anything 'different' from their way of thinking , opening their minds to what others have to say

Don't do it purposely. Usually it relates to the topic some way or another.

honestly, i love most of the off topics i delete :p 'cept for the ones that lead into attacks etc..
but as a mod i'm supposed to keep the thread on track, and some off topics are just weird. they reply to every member's post, as if all members are addressing them.

Mimo, some members get to the thread before you do and end up saying all that you had in mind. i'd only be repeating what they said in my own not very articulate way..nothing more. when someone says: 'member X said it all' it's because they did say it all.

I honestly cannot remember the last time I went off topic, probably b4 I became a mod over here but even then I never really liked going off topic. I prefer just replying to the thread and just move on to the next one.

I personally don't really care what the topic is about, if I had anthign to say that's not related to id I'd say it..
