View Full Version : Ferrari GT Heading to Paris, Teaser Site Launched
NiGhTFaCe 10-05-08, 03:18 AM http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/05/ferrari-gt.jpg
It's been photographed for months and referred to alternately as Dino and F149, but for now at least, the newest stallion from Maranello goes by the generic moniker, Ferrari GT. Today, the automaker launched www.ferrarigtcountdown.com (http://www.ferrarigtcountdown.com/webapp/) where the car will be gradually revealed during the runup to the Paris Motor Show this September. Ferrari promises to feed us technical details, sound files and photos of the car between now and Paris. Right now you can see a few teaser images and hear the engine sing its sweet, sweet song as it starts up, runs up and down through the gears, and screams by at full tilt. The countdown timer on the site currently shows 10 days and 22 hours until something else is revealed. Looks like we can put those Dino-branded rumors to rest for good; whatever this car is officially named, it is most definitely a Ferrari. See you in ten days, when the next puzzle piece hits the web.

Just as more spy shots of the rumored “Baby Ferrari” begin surfacing, the Italian automaker has decided to blow the cover off their newest vehicle, the gorgeous California, with a trio of official photos.
Offered only as a folding hardtop convertible, the California aims to sate the desires of the ultrarich who crave both open-air and Grand Tourer experiences. Powering the California will be Ferrari’s familiar 4.3-liter, flat-crank V-8, here with direct injection and mounted in a front-mid position and producing 454 horsepower at 7500 rpm, down from the 483 and 503 in the mid-engined F430 coupe/Spider and F430 Scuderia, respectively. The chassis and body panels will be crafted—as is the case with all Ferraris—in aluminum, and Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes will be standard.
The California is mechanically related to both the Maserati GranTurismo and Alfa Romeo 8C, which might make this the hottest set of triplets since, well, ever. The rear suspension is a new multilink setup, which deviates from the control arm approach used for the rest of the Ferrari lineup (and the GranTurismo and 8C, too). Seating is said to be a 2+ arrangement, which implies a rear seat, but the photos suggest that it will be little more than vestigial, a leather-lined shelf for your Prada briefcase.
In big news, putting the Prancing Horse’s ponies to the pavement will be a new, seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, a first for Ferrari. While Ferrari has had great success reducing the shift times to mere milliseconds with its Formula 1–derived F1 sequential manual gearbox, it’s never been able to make the shifts smooth enough for comfortable use in regular driving, particularly in automatic mode; this new box should fix that. Acceleration will be neck-snapping, as the automaker claims a 0-to-62-mph gallop of less than four seconds.
The “Baby Ferrari” nickname will likely prove to be misleading in terms of price, as Ferrari is positioning the California as a shoulder-to-shoulder GT peer to its own 612 Scaglietti, which sports a sticker of around $270,000. While the California will not likely cost nearly as much as that, some rumors have this car priced commensurate with today’s F430, whose replacement model will become even more technologically intensive—and therefore more expensive.
As such, we expect the California to come in just under $200,000, but going on looks alone—the achingly beautiful styling is inspired by both the 599GTB Fiorano and classic Ferraris of the past—we’re going to go ahead and say it’ll be worth whatever they ask.
Ferrari has set up a Web site with high-quality sound clips of the engine, as well as a live timer indicating when the next details are to be released. It also promises photos and what it’s calling “highly gratifying virtual road tests” some time in the future. The live reveal will take place October 1st at the 2008 Paris auto show.

Arabian Prince 17-05-08, 05:02 PM So is this the cheapest production Ferrari we've all been waiting for which will be sold for just under $200k?
It certainly looks the part, and from the amazing technical aspects this car is gifted with I can't wait for a thorough test drive review. And it's quite obvious that the design is greatly influenced by the 599GTB Fiorano. :)
Very pretty....wish it had a more "Italian" name though: Is is just me or does "California" not sound right on a Ferrari, even if it's a Latin word?!
AMARANT 17-05-08, 10:41 PM ^^ with u on that...
^ yeah me too, California doesn't suit the sexiness. should be something like conturbante :p
NiGhTFaCe 20-05-08, 10:56 PM For whoever is wondering about the name, its not new. There was this 250 GT California Spyder from the 50's & 60's, they got something in common if you check out the oldie.

Ferrari has lifted the lid even further on its all-new supercar, the California. Following images of the 454bhp 4.3-litre V8-engined baby GT with its roof-down, the Italian firm has now released these pictures showing the model's electric hard-top in action.
As you can see it's made up of two pieces – the roof itself and a separate opening section that comprises the boot lid and most of the rear end. According to Ferrari, the hood is very fast, stowing in just 14 seconds at the flick of a switch.
It's also practical. Conceived as a more usable alternative to the F430, it features luggage space behind the front seats, and 360-litres of capacity roof-up, 260-litres roof-down. Sitting below the 599 GTB, the California is smaller, but not exactly compact. Measuring 4.56m by 1.9m, it's nearly 300mm longer than a Lamborghini Gallardo and just as wide.
These latest pictures show the car in Azzurro California blue. This paint colour was used for the original California's appearance at the 1962 New York Motor Show. The new version gets a new 4.3-litre V8 with a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox, for which Ferrari claims fuel economy figures of 21.4mpg combined and CO2 emissions of 310g/km. The firm also says its body develops 70kg of downforce at 120mph.
The car has been recently put through its paces by Ferrari president, Luca di Montezemolo at the firm's Fiorano test track. He described the California as "supremely flexible in terms of usage". On sale toward the end of 2009, the California is expected to cost around £130,000.

IF you ask me to desrcibe a Ferrari, the only words that I can probably come up with are sleek, expensive, low and red. Women like me may aspire to be more knowledgeable about cars, but we all can’t be as cool as Danica Patrick.
However, we do know how to appreciate a great, sleek and ‘stunning car’ when we see it. It’s called the Ferrari California, and here’s where you can read more about it:
Ferrari says the California “is aimed at owners who desire a car which embodies everything the Prancing Horse represents in terms of sporty design and innovation, but also seek a car with greater versatility than ever.”
This newest prancing horse is not the “baby Ferrari.” It is, in fact, a brand-new model complementing and similar in size to the with more flexibility in packaging.
And although the photos Ferrari released to the world’s press don’t do the car justice, Editor-in-Chief Thos L. Bryant -who recently got a sneak peek at the car at the Ferrari factory -says the California “looks absolutely stunning in person.” - Yahoo autos
Taking the words of the expert at face value, I’m pretty sure that the sight of the Ferrari California in the showroom is absolutely breathtaking.
Based from the picture alone, the car is breathtakingly sexy!
What do you think, ES members? Would you, if you could, trade the car that you’re driving for this baby when it finally hits the market? I know I would!
Rock Devil 02-07-08, 07:36 PM I dislike it, doesn't look like a Ferrari, sadly. :os
AMARANT 02-07-08, 08:00 PM lol there's another thread about the car
it looks kinda different than the others, but still a beauty
worst feature is the exhausts style :bored:
marianna 02-07-08, 08:10 PM Makes me drool.
NiGhTFaCe 02-07-08, 09:10 PM Threads merged, the second picture is removed, because that isn't a Ferrari California.
It certainly looks more modern in some ways that the traditional Ferrari shape, and not necessarily in a good way: Reminds me a little of modern versions of the American muscle cars, and even the Aston DBS with that little bulge in the front. But...having seen more pictures, even with the more angular lines, it's still got that understated Ferrari beauty. It's grown on me...and that folding roof is neat.
OK, I'm won over...it's proper pretty. I want one. Not sure where to put the children though...:D
Rossonero 02-07-08, 10:08 PM Hmm, would be pretty nice as a graduation gift from daddy ;)
Im thinking more "it would be a nice gift from Daddy to himself..."
Angel_Eyes 11-07-08, 07:38 PM Move out of the way people! It's mine for the taking!!! :6:
netlover 13-07-08, 07:18 PM Lexus exhausts. Plus couldnt they come up with a better name?
NiGhTFaCe 13-07-08, 07:29 PM Lexus exhausts. Plus couldnt they come up with a better name?

We said the name isn't new!
Rossonero 14-07-08, 12:28 AM Common, what's wrong with the IS-F exhausts? This is what most auto-makers are going to use now .. at least their better than the Pagiani Zonda!
This is the 1950s Ferrari California that they are reviving..

netlover 14-07-08, 02:32 AM ^ I dont mind the IS-F exhausts. Infact, I think it makes the car look more elegant ;)
