A Jihad for Love (2007) - Movie Trailer

In a time when Islam is under tremendous attack from within and without, "A Jihad for Love" is a daring documentary filmed in twelve countries and nine languages. Muslim gay filmmaker Parvez Sharma has gone where the silence is loudest, filming with great risk in nations where government permission to make this film was not an option.

"A Jihad for Love" is Mr. Sharma's debut and is the world's first feature documentary to explore the complex global intersections between Islam and homosexuality. Parvez enters the many worlds of Islam by illuminating multiple stories as diverse as Islam itself. The film travels a wide geographic arc presenting us lives from India, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, South Africa and France. Always filming in secret and as a Muslim, Parvez makes the film from within the faith, depicting Islam with the same respect that the film's characters show for it.

I have heard about it some time ago. I actually thought that the movie is an idea, not an actual one that has been materialized. Am I willing to watch it? hell yeah. Enough with the vanilla movies, time to bring on things that actually stirs something.

2) What are your initial thoughts on:
a) The topic at hand?

Very interesting and very real.

b) The whole idea of this docudrama? (if I may call it so)

Controversial, in a good way.

The footages of homosexuals in that video very much justifies the ruling of all religions against gays.

No, I am not sure if I want to see it

Islam does not permit homosexuality…nor does any other religion! (Period)

What is he trying to do? We are sick of this issue being discussed over and over…
If he thinks being gay is perfectly normal + He thinks Islam is completely prejudicial about homosexuality = he shouldn’t believe Islam is a right religion…
Then just leave it, go to another religion or stay without any one, I am against killing for apostasy…but its simple, you don’t like it then don’t take it… and like Jeff said about law makers in Cali “don’t shove it down our throats”… the issue is jult like talking about growing palm trees in Alaska…it doesn’t work! So live in Alaska with no dates or go grow it somewhere else!
His @$$ is his and he is free to do whatever with it! “Excuse my sophisticated language” but the religion is not his father’s …for God’s sake leave it…disown Muslims…curse them…just stop personalizing the religion!

b) The whole idea of this docudrama? (if I may call it so)

Complete idiocy…has no valid bases or mission…has no point… like I said, its talking about growing palm trees in Alaska!

Yeah that was very sad to see. Why would anyone do that to a fellow human being? :(

Back to the topic, yes, I do want to watch it. I have always loved controversial documentaries that encourages me to think unconventionally and learn the other side of the story. After all, not everything we were taught by this society is true.

I have a Muslim gay friend. He told me that he found out he was gay since he was young, but actually came out after he graduated from high school and came abroad. I am still not sure that he was born gay or became one as he was growing up. Anyways, we were conversing and during one of our debates, he said:

"Lym,the only way I could remain a Muslim and believe in God is if I believe that God made me this way and this is a test on whether I would act on my homosexuality or not. Just like a test that you should not engage in premarital sex or any other temptation. I have to remind myself that I can be a good Muslim by restraining my urges and not engaging in the act itself. However, being homosexual should be perfectly okay in Islam provided that I don't act on it. This is the only thing I could believe to stop me from hating God for making me this way and then condemning me for it".

That's a disgusting thing to say.
