Japengo is a new Japanese restaurant located in Shatti Al Qurum area on Shari3 Al Hub (Love Road).

I went there on the first day and it's really good.. Loved the atmosphere, design and of course food!

Have you been there yet? If not, I recommend that you do :)

Not a fan of Asian food anyways... but I am glad that finally a dine-in restaurant opened at that place. One dine-in restaurant was needed at Shatti al-Qurum street AKA Love Street.

I dont know about Oman's Japengo. But I'm ALWAYS at Japengo in Dubai and I love the food and the atmosphere!

I like Japengo since I tried it in Dubai a few years ago but I don't understand the name of the restaurant. It's not a Japanese restaurant although they do have sushi. The menu has sandwiches, burgers and even Lebanese food in addition to international cuisine and south asian food.

I liked the interior decoration, but the stark white interior and the bright tube lighting gave me a bad headache because I'm extremely light sensitive. Almost half the items on the menu were not available. The drink prices are ridiculous with most juices going for over 2 rials. My food was brought to me cold (room temperature). I had to send it back and when they brought it back it was only slightly better. The noodles were bland, needed more spices or chili. But the sushi was alright.

They are still going through initial teething problems I guess. Too early to pass judgment on them. Would be great when the weather gets better later in the year to sit at the outside bar and have some sushi.

I'm fairly confused by the new Japengo. In Dubai, the chain is positioned as a lively, casual sort of place, definitely in the middle price ranges. Here, they seem to be aiming for the top of the market, although several features - especially the operating-room lighting - seem to work against the overall effect.

What it mostly seemed to us, when I and a friend visited, was jaw-droppingly expensive - a light sushi dinner for two (we had to order a la carte, as they don't yet have enough variety for the assorted plate), with one appetizer, two juices, and water ran to:

63 RIALS!!

We've eaten, and well, at the Chedi for less!

I wish it weren't, TH, but I have the receipt to prove it. We had about as much sushi as we would have had with two assortments (which, I believe, run 13RO each), but ordered as separate items, plus the rest of the meal, plus tax/service, indeed made 63 as the total.

Next time, we're trying the Lebanese - and bringing sunglasses.

When we went we were just two couples and the bill came out to be 61 rials.

After reading the posts... I am not even goin' close to it.
I mean.. first turned out to be not a Japanese resturant!!
Just becuase they got sushi doesn't make it japanese "people".
And I eat sushi everyday here made by japanese and korean resturants.. where a plate of teriyaki chicken sushi ( 8 pieces ) will cost me just 7 - 8 bucks! ( 2 rials lol)
