View Full Version : You've been promoted :)
Endure Whisper 04-05-08, 05:04 PM This happened a few days ago to someone I know and I was wondering if you were put in this situation:
You receive a letter at work saying that you've been promoted and that they've granted you with extra features (better car, medical insurance, etc..).
You're over the moon and celebrate the promotion with your family.
The HR manager comes up to you the next day and tells you that there has been a mistake in the letter. The promotion part is correct but the additional features they promised you are partially incorrect and that you won't be recieving all the features mentioned.
How do you react and what do you expect from the company you work for?
NicoBambi 04-05-08, 05:11 PM I show him/her the letter, and ask him/her to do what they said. There are laws. :)
If they tell you something, and furthermore you have a proof, they have to do it. At least here ^^
Rossonero 04-05-08, 05:21 PM I'd sue them.
HaHa that wont happen to me ,, cause without doubts i'll be the head boss
^confident!
Like Nico, show him the letter and ask for compensation of damage done to my self-esteem and reputation. If they don't give that, sue them.
Poor that HR Manager ..
He will surely have some charges pressed on him by me!
NiGhTFaCe 04-05-08, 06:28 PM It will be fine for me, usually when you are promoted, the salary is increased, so I can be satisfied with that.
FAITH86 04-05-08, 07:12 PM I won't really bother since I've been already promoted and recognized as a distinguished employee..
fatamooo 04-05-08, 07:14 PM Well I hope to work in a law firm one day, so if a law firm makes that kind of mistake I'd quit cause they'd be lawsuits waiting to happen. :)
Samdawy 04-05-08, 07:37 PM I wouldn't react angrily as long as the promotion entails a higher salary :)

Legally, if the employee has that letter the company is binded to give them all the extra benefits they promised.
If the person really wants those benefits, he should fight for them .. and by that it will teach HR a lesson not to issue a letter with such a mistake (and I know a mistake like that would mean hell for the HR employee who did that mistake :p :yuk:)
Mistakes do happen and such seems to be quiet common nowadays :hmm:, I'll just move on [most probably look for a better offer] but if I worked at this company for a long time I think I'd demand something for the silly mistake they made or like some have already said sue them if I have the time and strength.
I'll defiantly fight for my right. and personally i don't think it can happen to me cause I'm studying HR and hopefully I'll be an HR manger and I'll make sure that never happens lol
I wouldn't make a big deal of it. Depends on my relations with the HR people tho :p

I quit differ with you on this AP
If the letter clashes with HR policy in the company, then legally it doesn’t bind the company. The Employee can complain for a mistake but he can’t complain for something that’s out side his privileges ‘although the mistaken letter says so’. The HR personnel issuing such document can be panelised:yes:.
The staff should always seeking the information of what of what the other employees at the same level he promoted to are given as per the company policy.
If it is something given in writting, I will defenitely take the legal step, but before that I would consult my direct boss (whoever I'm reporting too) and tell him about the situation, and after hearing his reply if posetive will ask him to support else otherwise if negative will put it in writting to him that I am not accepting the mistake as a mistake and I am taking this further as it has effected by self-esteem!
Will wait for the company's reply after that see what they have to say.... if still negative, this will come under unilateral mistakes, and it will be taken further to court.
But will not sit on it with my eyes shut and accept whatever they say!
The letter means nothing. HR simply issues another letter saying stituation has changed with the new arraingment.
Then its up to employee to accept or decline ...

same here.
toxic_honey 13-05-08, 06:04 AM i wouldnt care much coz those benefits are stupid!
but if i saw others in my position and have those benifits i will ask for my rights rather he likes it or not
sameerb1 13-05-08, 09:03 AM ^those benefits arent stupid but you cant do anything...according to Ministry of ManPower...until you are given the stuff you dont exectly own them...and the things you get are previliges and not rights so company has full right to take them anytime they want....
so you can fight and ruin your relation with the senior management and wont get anything or you can keep quiet and be happy about what you got and be happy with the management and maybe in near future they will think about giving you all that
:D Nothing at all I will listen to what they have to say...and offer them what they want and need!!I will open to suggestions...that all I don't be a dictator all the time!!:D:D:D
