:hyper:Thanks to all who voted for me.

The picture was edited in the manner of REMOVING something from the picture, not to position the bird in front of the sun.

Here is the original.

Here's another one I had to choose between :

And this would have been my other entry :

If I had to vote for a picture (other than mine :hyper:) I would have chosen Escape - thats a difficult picture to take.

I noticed the editing which is why I didn't vote for it, I personally thought that 'escape' was the most professional shot of the bunch and deserved to win but congrats to wudjab on his win, had you submitted the picture of the tree then that one would have probably gotten my vote.

Nice job Woody...you DO use a Canon right? I'm not sure if it's that or something to do with Photoshop that gives a distinctive look to the light and colour in a picture.

It's a really interesting shot anyway...well done...and look forward to the next one :)

Yeah, its a Canon S2 IS.. it's getting a bit old in the tooth but there's tons of stuff I don't know yet about the camera.

As you can see from the original, apart from editing out a couple of birds that were in the wong place at the wrong time, I didn't really play with the color too much.

How did you take your pic Nosa ?

hummm i took that in the day light, but there was a shade covring the window behind my shot.. was trying a dozen match shots.. n each fire shot eas different, but in the end i liked that this looked like a bird so i kept it n deleted the rest coz they were sorta normal looking

i used a Canon G9 camera with a micro mode set n no flash

p.s: u can see in the bk ground all the matches that i was experimenting on in different poses till i got this pic

okay im gonna say this wudjab , honestly..
i just noticed the birds that u ( took out ) from the original photo.. n i think u cnt edit that much 4 a photography competition! n as i noticed the sky, there r marks.. so i dont know..

n i dont think ANYONE noticed it.. so its out bet..

http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g25/nosa85/prefection.jpg

i don't call this pure photography, its too much editing! i know its just contrast n brightness u can edit 4 this.. nothing more.. this is kinda cheating isnt it?

Nabs : thanks a lot man :cute:

Just a question: is editing by all means allowed in the competition?

Congrats, wudjab ! :) Great shots in such a great timing. Congrats to other participants too.

One question- where is the exact location of ur pic ? Let me guess: Toronto, Canada ?

Nosa,

I think you are missing the bigger picture here.

The picture is a winner BECAUSE of the bird in the center which is blocking out the sun. Without it, it's like any other picture.

Now, if the picture had been edited to place a bird in front of the sun to get that effect, that would be unfair.

Since this was taken in a public place with people moving around and birds flying around, then there are bound to be distracting elements.

Therefore, in my opinion, removing some of the distractions is not radically changing the nature of the picture.

Go back and look at the original. What is the main striking feature about it ? Right, the bird in the center. Has it been edited ? No.

Remember AP's sunset picture with the power lines, etc, etc.

Do you think removing the power lines was unfair ? Not at all, because the main focus on the picture was on the dramatic colors of the sunset.. the powerlines were just a distraction.

i din say anything about that, wt made it a winner is the ( single ) bird blocking the sun!
without the others removed it looks very good 2..
anyways that's wt i think, n if sabla allows this then comments in poll threads should be allowed too..

Woody I liked your pitcure most thats why I gave it my vote, it did stand out from the rest. Enjoy this win!

p.s: I didn't vote for it because it was #6 but because it was that GOOD. I wouldn't be able to tell about the bird as well, amazing work.

Congratulations wudjab, well deserved!! :star:

Yours was a winner from the very beginning ;)

Oh and I wouldn't have known that it was edited in that way (the birds and all). Editing or not, I believe one of the intriguing aspects of photography is that awe factor, and you've managed to achieve that in this shot.

Sometimes, to a certain degree, when people question the genuineness of a photo (mostly in landscape and macro photography) it should be considered as a compliment. :)

You should post more of your work in the visual arts sabla :mushroom:

not to be a party pooper, but can someone be kind enough to explain to me what kind of competition this is? is this a 'photography' competition or is it a 'take a picture and edit it' competition?

i don't think it's fair to take a PHOTOGRAPH (knowing that this IS a photography competition) and edit it. now if it were up to me, that would not qualify for this competition. it's not fair to the other ones who took natural pictures.

sorry, but it's the same as cheating.

had you not have edited that photograph, i would have said congrats.

it should have been the way it was. it would have been nice.no need to remove the birds!!

Congraats though the original pic doesnt look that nice :D . There is alot of editing and I think photography means real photos, doesn't it ?

But I must say that the edited photo looked awesome.
