2 of my friends had baby girls recently, ni have to get them gifts.. i dun wana get them the usual cloths like every1 else.. n not choclate or flowers.. i want something creative n useful..

any ideas?

My friend's sister had a baby, and she made her a gift I think is VERY sweet.

She went on the first day and took pictures of the baby, a lot of pictures, then because she's good at photoshop she used it to design a big poster with the pictures of the baby, added a nice poem and then printed and framed it.

Next morning she went to her sister's hospital room and put it there, her sister saw it and was so happy she started crying.

oh you want a present for your friends?
well...i once read about this idea. get a nice card, and inside put a 'voucher' inside. write on the voucher 'this entitles you to X hours of babysitting'....she'll find it useful when she wants to go out with her husband.
also you can take them out for a pamper, like a pedicure or a facial...or buy them stuff that will help them relax during their early baby rearing days.

If it's for the babies then I think you should get them something that they'd not use immediately 'cuz people always get them clothes and sheets for the baby.

I got into the habit of getting them baby walkers, baby push chairs, phone monitors (so they can hear the baby cry when they're in a different room), baby seats- car and home, toys (6 months and above-- baby tents for example).

Also, for baby girls: gold. Not many people appreciate it though. Have the metal shaped as the baby's name; where it could be used as necklace or as badge..

I had a friend who did a voucher which she dressed up and said she would babysit and help clean so that the new mom could have some free time to relax and re-energize.

when stuck then go for gift cards if they have it in Oman!

I usually give new borns CA$H in envelope, but I think that would look weird from a lady!

open her an accont in the bank *the one for kids education in the future*

When I lived in Saudi they had a nice tradition there: If it was a baby girl, they would buy jewellery for the baby - not necessarily in a child's size, but something nice for when they are older, because it's a nice memory so they know from their mother that "so-and-so got that for you on the day you were born".

But if it was a baby boy, then the gift would be jewellery for the mother :D

Anyway, in this case, I like the ideas for pampering mother: I think a lot of women get overwhelmed when they first have children and don't have much time for looking after themselves, and stop feeling like an attractive woman. So taking your friend for a manicure or a new hair do is a nice idea. So is babysitting - but buy her a breast pump too so she can express milk for the baby and go out, and someone else is able to do the feed. Put all three together and you're really helping her out I'm sure!

But if it's for baby, then how about a nice engraved bracelet with the date of the birth and a nice message from you? Or maybe a locket with pictures of the baby's parents in, and one of them as a baby?

i was thinking about doing something with the pictures that i took of the baby.. frame it or something.. but ahhhh i hope its not too late.. tomorrow's the gathering .. n i don't think that i have enough time

if you wanna get a present for the baby...my kids got lots of presents as babies but the thing i love most is a piece of antique jewellery they got. it was like they have something 'from the past' to carry on to their future.

Something for the mother, since most presents are for the baby it would be nice if she got one as well

i wanted to get an intercom, u know that thing that u can put n hear the baby cry if ur in another room? well i found 2.. 1 was like 10 dinars ( very cheep looking ) the other was 70 Dinars ( ordinary looking, but expensive) i thought about it for a long time.. coz it's something soo usful! n she dosnt have 1! ( 1 of the gals )

so i got this ( musical Mat) u put it on the floor n it has things to play n press.. its very nice.. n can be kept n used for a while.. her new born may use it after 6 months or more, but it was better then buying a toy that they all ready r stacked with...

i also bought 2 photo frames to put her 2 gals photo's in.. ill go today empty handed n get the pix done.. then another day take it all.. n ill go buy a gift for her.. i thought of a bath set, like shower gel n oils n shmpoo.. ( her bathroom is fun :P )

I think Jewelery is the best gift.

If it was a baby girl, they would buy jewellery for the baby

But if it was a baby boy, then the gift would be jewellery for the mother :D


So the baby boy gets nothing? What a bunch of sexist ppl, no wonder many men go into depression.

Pampering a woman is something I would also recommend, (Honestly I never thought about that) especially if it was a first born, bec this is the time your status changes from single to married to mother. So yea, I would take her for a complete makeover

when my cuzn had her 1st baby, her bro bought her this walky talky thing, u keep 1 next to the baby's bed, and the other 1 in the kitchen/living room, etc...

oh a baby monitor...it's a brilliant tool. i bought one for a friend of mine as well. we had lots of fun with the kids with it when the baby grew up.
