View Full Version : Pay for it or DIY?
Libellula 30-04-08, 02:37 AM If there's something you need to get done that you can do for yourself, would you do it on your own at home or would you still go to a salon and pay for the service?
eg if you knew how to wax, give yourself a manicure/pedicure, tweeze your brows, you could use a face mask at home, etc.
---
I personally know how to wax but still don't do it on my own. I'd rather pay to have it done because it's quicker and I am lazy. Also, even though I know how to tweeze my brows I'd rather have them threaded by a professional. I can clip, file and polish my nails on my own but I'd still rather go and pay for a manicure/pedicure. I enjoy being pampered and to me that's more important than saving the money..
The one thing I do at home is hot oil treatments because really, it doesn't take extra time since you don't have to actively do anything. Just put it in and leave it for a while, then wash out of your hair (which you're gonna do at some point anyway).
Dam3eti 30-04-08, 02:44 AM I don't know how to do anything by myself except paint my nails. I don't even know how to clip them properly. I get everything done at the salon.
I also do my own make up most of the time unless its a big occasion like a close friend/relatives wedding. I can wax my arms but it takes too long and I'm just not bothered because I know it'd take less time to go get it done professionally. I guess I do know how to do a few things after all
dam3t-malak 30-04-08, 03:24 AM I wax for the time being at home, unless if i am lazy then i will pay for it. i used to pay but now i have all the equipments at home so i just do it at home. actually it depends on my mood if i am in a good mood to do it at home will do it if i am not then wil get them done at the saloon, i pluck\thread my eye brows usually at the saloon.
i can wax, and tweeze, and i do them myself. not most of the time though lol.
i pay the salon a visit every now and then. it's just quicker and more pro. specially tweezing, i only do that if i want to keep them clean, and i can't go to the salon. threaded eyebrows look a whole lot better.
I can do most. Even my own haircut. But going to a salon means I get it done perfectly.
In the end, I'm simply paying to relax.
To pamper myself.
Because I'm worth it. :hyper:
Angel_Eyes 30-04-08, 09:37 AM As i said in another thread..i do everything myself..you name it. I don't think there is a need to pay when i already can do it myself.. I do my own make up, hair styling, waxing, tweezing, henna, manicure/pedicure, etc..
if i really can't do it myself then yes i'd go to the salon.
i thought this thread would be about DIY in general, not just makeup n girly things!
for guys, we either shave at home or at da barber, n i do both, if i want a certain style done i go for the barber, but when i want a clean shave, i do it at home.
Endure Whisper 30-04-08, 10:42 AM I know how to do everything (except, hair cut, nails, eye brows) on my own but I go to the salon. I get pampered and I like that.. I go to the salon atleast once a week.. Usually Thursday mornings :)
pixie girl 30-04-08, 01:29 PM I'd be too scared to give myself a haircut :XD:
Other than that it just depends on my mood...
I would always rather go to the salon. I think they're better than me and they will do the job perfectly while I would do it adequately. However in Australia, I'm forced to wax on my own (body and upper lip). I cut my nail and file them, but it is never anything fancy. For a proper mani and padi, I have to go to the salon. I also have to go to the salon for a facial, a haircut and for threading purposes.
Angel_Eyes 30-04-08, 02:44 PM ^
i've only gone to the salon twice in my life..and both times it was a styled haircut:)
I really thought you were talking abt car/home repairs
J'adore 30-04-08, 03:14 PM When it comes to my nails, I always do it at a Salon..
That goes for hair cuts too!
The only thing I do at home is.. Makeup.. I dun put that much on.. So theres no point to get someone to do it for me when I'm perfectly capable of doing it EXACTLY the way I like it..
Eyebrows.. I thread my eyebrows with the same lady Everytime..
Simply because in my point of view no one does it better than her lol
But I dun mind doin them myself either!
Waxing.. Either my mamma or sis do it for me or Salon..
And there u have it ;) hehe
Ladies usually do these for us, we highly appreciate it.
In Oman I pay for everything except getting my make up done. I only get my make up done for me if it was a really close relative's wedding. In the UK, I get my eyebrows and upper lip done sometimes or tweeze them myself. As for waxing, I do it myself or let my friend do it.
i dont know how to wax myself.. so i always go to saloon.. but now im bored so i shave! n its annoying!
n i enjoy pedicures n manicures.. so i never do them at home 4 myself.. unless its only filing my nails..
i love the head massages n oil treatments.. so i still go to the saloon to get that done.. im too lazy to massage my own sculp n fall aslep while doing it :p heheh
toxic_honey 30-04-08, 06:04 PM I can everything myself except a perfect hair cut!
i go to saloon if i have no time and want things to look perfect..
Kreeemy 01-05-08, 07:32 AM The only time I feel pampered is when I go for a message or for a Moroccan bath other than that I just force my self to go to the saloon because I can’t get it done professionally or as good as the people in the saloon.
I do my eyebrows though when I am in the UK since I haven’t found a beauty centre that could shape it the way I like it.
WoLF DoLL 01-05-08, 06:07 PM I don't do anything at home, simply cause I don't know how to.
I can do a lot of things! I can tweeze my own brows, I can manicure my nails, I can cut/dye my own hair!
But waxing is usually done at the saloon, or this Indian lady comes over to our house and does all the waxing and threading for us.
AMARANT 02-05-08, 02:59 AM if i just wanna trim, then it's at home
otherwise the barber does it...
nails at home...
Twinkle 05-05-08, 02:55 PM i do everything myself
I only go to the salon on special occasions.. or for a haircut
