MUSCAT — His Majesty Sultan Qaboos has affirmed that development of a strong and efficient Omani national workforce has been one of his top priorities since assuming power in the Sultanate that marked the beginning of the blessed Renaissance led by His Majesty since 1970. In an interview to Ahmed Al Jarallah, Editor-in-Chief of Kuwait’s Al Siyasa newspaper, to be published today, His Majesty has said: "We believe that the human factor is the basis for turning our dreams to reality. Building of man has always been the main concern of the Omani government, especially since the time we were far away from modernity.

“Now we are reaping the fruits of those efforts at building human resources through education and training. Our commitment to our real value and heritage has helped us keep abreast of the requirements of the modern age." His Majesty the Sultan affirmed his happiness over the response of people to the efforts of building human resources. His Majesty pointed out that the process of Omani Renaissance, which started from scratch, is now a source of pride for His Majesty as also for the Omani people, who cooperated with their leader and shown a great sense of responsibility.

The Sultanate has gained international recognition and it is a safe haven for the Omani national and all its residents and visitors, he said. His Majesty the Sultan said he feels happy with the development of Oman. His Majesty tours the different regions, interacts with people and listens to their complaints. The Omani people have provided all the support in completing these missions, His Majesty added. His Majesty the Sultan pointed out that things are moving well and as per plan that people have been trained to strive for. "We have our pre-conceived plans, five-year plans and other short and long term plans, all of which aim to achieve certain goals. The studied openness to outside world provides the internal strength”.

His Majesty the Sultan said that the sun of progress and development is rising and “we don't want it to ever set on Oman.” “I want to tell my people — sons and relatives — we will restore the glory of Oman. The darkness has been dispelled. I encourage people of this country, as well as its supporters to stand as one body to build this country which has remained throughout the ages sovereign and firm against the aspirations of conquerors.” His Majesty the Sultan pointed out that throughout the last four decades, Oman has witnessed a Renaissance that has captured the praise and confidence of its people. His Majesty pointed out that the Omani society is united in the spontaneous response of the people to the call of their leader. This response has made them one people without any division or split.

The loyalty of the people is for Allah, faith and nation not for any sect or faction. His Majesty the Sultan pointed out that inflation in the Sultanate is not a source of worry as conditions are different here from other countries, which suffer from imaginary inflation rates. His Majesty also pointed out that the oil price hike, which is attributed to the decline in the dollar exchange rate, will reflect positively on the capitalisation size in the region as it is the case in the Sultanate. His Majesty the Sultan pointed out that the Omani diplomacy is appreciated by all as it is based on mutual respect.

There is a common agreement that the Omani diplomacy is quiet and void of any uproar. His Majesty the Sultan affirmed that the Sultanate does not have any differences or discord with anyone either on the regional or the international levels as the Sultanate is a state of peace. His Majesty the Sultan said that the best political systems are those inspired by countries with social and political heritage and culture pointing out that if any authority loses the legitimacy for governing it, it takes it years to restore the confidence of the world because the new entity needs time to regain confidence in the international arena.

His Majesty the Sultan hoped that the ghost of war will not approach this region which is the nerve of the international economy and the main interest of policy and decision makers as it lies on the bulk of oil reserves. In this connection, His Majesty the Sultan said, "we want to maintain our region away from disasters of wars. We want it to charter its own way towards development, to enable it to enjoy its monetary surplus, prosperity, stability and progress. All this can be achieved through a simple equation — that is to respect the interests of others the same way we expect them to respect our interests.

I read the interview last night before going to bed.. I say it's a quite interesting interview. The same Kuwaiti journalist also interviewed HM two years ago (or was it last year?) which makes me wonder... why we don't have Omani journalists interviewing HM as often?

I read the interview before in arabic but when I read it as I was there in the interview. Admired his wisdom and the way he has shown his care about the Omani people and the country.

I had the same questioning but from the interview I can sense a close friendship and brotherhood between HM Sultan and Al-Jar-Allah.
