About 80 torch-bearers will run 20km through old Sidab and Muscat town then move to the Corniche before taking the Darsait Heights on the way to Qurum Natural Park.
"Along the route there will be traditional music and dance shows to entertain the people. There will also be a grand cultural programme at the floating theatre in Qurum Natural Park,"

Good entertainment.
Hope it is not very hot.

Olympic torch travels on to Oman

The Olympic torch relay is expected to go smoothly in Oman
The Olympic torch has reached Oman, its only stop in the Middle East, on its way to the Games' host city, Beijing.

The torch arrived in the capital, Muscat, early on Monday morning from Tanzania, where the relay run passed off without incident.

The parade in Oman is not expected to feature the human rights protests that have caused chaos at previous legs in London, Paris and San Francisco.

Oman has strong economic ties with China, a major importer of its oil.

Oman's Sports Minister Ali bin Massoud bin Ali al-Sunaidi and Chinese diplomats received the torch when it arrived at 0530 (0130GMT).

The parade is to take place in the evening to avoid high temperatures during the day.

Eighty athletes will carry the flame 20 km (12 miles) though the city.

An official said that police would be deployed to protect the torch and its bearers.

Protests by activists angered by China's policies on Tibet and Darfur have forced several legs of the relay to be shortened or diverted.

After Oman, the Olympic torch heads for the Pakistani capital, Islamabad.

Torch lit in Olympia on 24 March and taken on five-day relay around Greece to Athens
After handover ceremony, taken to Beijing on 31 March to begin a journey of 136,800 km (85,000 miles) around the world

Torch arrives in Macau on 3 May. After three-month relay all around China, it arrives in Beijing for opening ceremony on 8 August

i think it's nice for oman to have been chosen.
as to the human rights and the right of protest, that's another opinion but i don't want to spoil the good feeling of having the torch in your own city.

the olympics are not 'so called' just remember that we've had the olympics under hitler already...and a black man got refused his medal for being black...
olympics should be signifying what's good in humanity not to be used as a pr exercise by a country that has the worst (so called) human rights in history.
but that's probably another thread.

Yeah I saw some of those Samsung sponsored cars and groups on my way home. I heard it was a nice event.

Oman is a close friend of China, and I believe that played a role in the decision to choose Oman.

Torch next goes to Islamabad and then New Delhi.

I' am just happy that no one got hurt in the process.
To me, sports shouldn't involve any political messages. And remember don't be a puppet, read history very well before you pass your judgments.
The Tibet issur is far more complex than what they show on TV - when they are not showing Katamandu instead of Lhasa that is :p-
China's human rights record isn't the prettiest, but whos is?

It's rather naive to think that of the human rights abuses in Tibet as the only issue of contention amongst those protesting and rallying at the torch runs.

It looks as though you should look into the factors at play and look over the history of the calls to boycott and protest rather than, as it appears to me, just depend on the media for information on these protests and their cause.

There is always a hidden reason behind all of this.- I' am a consipiracy theorist - And once i saw how much the US media has put into it - a lot of which is a clear blatant lie-, I had to stop and think.

i know this is kinda late but i just saw the thread... my thoughts were...

I think its absolutely great that we got to have it pass our lovely country. we're the ONLY country in the gulf! 4th arab country to host it too, (after beirut 1964, cairo 2004 and Dar es salam 2008)

BUT i have to say one thing just made me role my eyes:

80 torch bearers
the beginning were a handful of people in high places and actual sports figures, the people at the end of the relay were important people too and everyone in between was like min heb o deb (anyone from anywhere)!!! none of them serious sports figures, people who play tennis once a week or local basket ball tournaments, i mean for heaven's sake they even got Salah al zadjali (wedding singer!!!) to run the relay! what the!

you just have to know the right people to be a part of anything in Oman i guess!

and where were all our famouse football players?? ok if they were busy at least send the bench warmers to carry the torch!

ok i don't really know what you mean by that question mark?? but if u mean that he shouldn't be there then you are soo wrong my friend and i will tell you why;

firstly he is a young very talented omani singer and he is the only guy who has ever done anything for our sports scene in oman, every time there is a match all the kids and the grown ups are only singing salahs songs..we in our school love it sooo much that its our sports anthem!!!

secondly he was not chosen by the ministry which is sad cause they should have picked him instead of all those old fat officials who couldn't ever run!! Salah was chosen by Samsung and that itself is a big deal cause from the whole Middle east only 4 people were picked and Salah was one of them, the other three were Sulaf Fawakhirji, saad alshimari and Batal al Qawos.

Thirdly and finally please go Google Salah Alzadjali cause he is the only guy who has done so much for our youth like he was the first one to make a very motivational song about Gunu and he was also the one who made a very touching song for Children working with UNICEF and he was even given an Honery award for that work.

so now we all know why Samsung choose him!

Good Luck Salah Please ignore all the Negative people and keep up the good work we are proud of you. :)
