My lil bro got chickenpox two days ago, so some questions came in mind:

~What's the source of chickenpox, other than getting it from someone else?

~For how long do the marks stay in one's body? As in how long does it take to vanish completely..

~How effective is the shot against chickenpox? Is it reliable?

~How can you avoid getting chickenpox from someone?

My chickenpox marks never totally disappeared. I still have some on my tummy. They're like faded spots where the skin is slightly raised. They're not noticeable unless someone looks at them up close or touches them.

^ So I'm guessing that it doesn't heal completely :os Crap!

oh poor baby.....give him lukewarm baths with bicarbonate of soda, i read it soothes the itches a lot. over here there's a spate of chicken pox and many kids have been off school for three weeks. my kids are vaccined against it. the worst chicken pox i've heard of was of adults catching it from their kids...
God willing it will pass quickly for your little bro superbia.

yes it does heal completely. it's only a few scars that remain.

Yeah I noticed that he scratches himself a lot, and cries randomly out of nowhere.. He can't even sleep properly at night, he tends to fidget quite a lot! But the doctor said that in 10 days it will fade away, as in the stage of being passed onto others.. :os

It depends on how old you are when you get it. As far as I know, the younger you are, the easier and quicker the marks will fade.

i don't think you can get it while somebody in your family has got it. wait for a sabla doctor to tell you better.
stay away from your brother and make sure who cares for him keeps changing his sheets and bathes him frequently. it can be caught from the 'flakes' that fall off the body.
now where's hitman and fahad when you need them. tutt tutt...

I got chickenpox when I was 19! Which is very recent.I got it a few days before the Gonu incident. It was one horrible experience. I couldn't go out or do anything I was trapped at home for a month or so. It was very itchy...the spots kept increasing by the min. I had chickenpox everywhere on my face, back, stomach, arms legs...everywhere. The doctor prescribed some sort of chamomile lotion that I had to apply all over my body. And I was not to touch them chickenpox spots no matter what. But I couldn't take it anymore. I scratched some of the dried out spots and now I have a mark or two on my forehead along with some faded marks on my back and legs.

Its better to get chickenpox at a young age, the symptoms won't be that intense

Poor him! I got mine when I was 7, and I remember the warm baths and medications. I just checked my body for scars, doesn't look like I have any!

Its an exclusively human virus. Its a very old disease but animals can't catch the disease from us, so it therefore means that we can't catch it from animals.

Brother and I both had them at the same time when we went to Puerto Rico. I was around 6 years old, he was 5. I heard that the antibodies made when a person has chickenpox can be carried from the mother to the fetus so that the baby doesn't end up getting it later in life. My daughter has never had chickenpox.

Getting chicken pox or the mumps when you are older say after puberty can increase your chances in becoming sterile.

I don't think that's true
I got mine when I was nine, my baby brother was only a few months old and he caught it.
whenever mama mentions it now I feel a little guilty xD it's the way she says it lol.. I remember being told to stay away from him but apparently I didn't :p
but having chicken pox wasn't an unpleasant experience for me really. I got to skip school :p get pampered.. I remember just sitting on the beanie chair wrapped in a laiso and dad bringing me chocolate drinks and videos for me to watch hehe
Just don't let him scratch superbia.. might cause infections or scars
tie mittens to his hands if you have to :p

Not sure is available here in Omani pharmacies but usually mentholated talc applied on skin, helps to feel relieved from scratching sensetion

i was referrring to the jab. the injection against chicken pox. i meant 'i don't htink you can get it (the inoculation) whilst someone from the family is infected with chicken pox'.

when i was a kid and one of us (all the kids of my mum's friends) got something (measles, chicken pox etc) they used to put us all in the same bed together so we all got it at the same time. :hyper:

My sisters and I all got it at the same time. I was 6 then, and I don't think it left any marks on my body or face. It did leave marks on my sister though, because she used to scratch the spots off.
I know people who got chickenpox twice or more.
I don't know if it's true, but I heard that it's actually healthy to get chickenpox. Getting it when you're older, or not getting it at all is quite worrying, especially for males. Is that true and why?

It's dangerous on the baby if you get Chickenpox while you're pregnant. It will lead to either blindness or deafness. I know a boy (now a guy) who was born deaf, doctors told them mother it was because she had Chickenpox while she was pregnant with him. Al Hamdulillah he went through surgery in Europe and they did something in his body and he can hear now.
