View Full Version : Hairstyles for Brides: Up or Down?
UmKhalid 10-04-08, 11:57 PM I've noticed that nowadays most put their hair up. When I was going through very old pictures of family weddings, the brides had their hair down and they looked beautiful! I think they wouldn't have looked as beautiful if they had their hair up.
What do you think would be best for you? Up or Down?
You may include pictures.
minerva 11-04-08, 12:03 AM i prefer a down style but with the front bit up so it does not stick to the face, and the bride would not have to worry about pushing her hair backwards all the time. i had mine down, and my sister in law did too.
eL3yo0oN 11-04-08, 12:16 AM Down looks better, i guess most have theirs up so it doesnt bother them..
I can't reply to this question without some bias, because putting a brides hair up is my absolute favourite part of my job.
I've done too many to mention or even count, and all kids of styles and with all kinds of hair types.
There are so many ways you can dress hair without looking stiff, if stiff is not what you want.. that I'm not sure I like the 'normal' look..
But I can say one thing: on your wedding day you want to look like a beauty queen.. you'll look back in 20 years time and think you never looked better, no matter how you did your hair.
On the wedding night I would definitely want mine to be up

you got 'long' hair hitty?
Minerva, I'm sorry I can't share the length in here
I don't have a comment, but it's all very interesting...

make sure you trim it regularly. split ends are nasty.
Dam3eti 11-04-08, 12:45 AM Down looks nice on some people, Libby had her hair down and it looked really nice on her. But with the veil up looks nicer.
Endure Whisper 11-04-08, 12:48 AM I had my hair down and it looked great. I also wore a veil. I like it down. I guess the old fashion is coming back !
UmKhalid 11-04-08, 12:49 AM Do you think it would depend on the dress?
What if the bride had a traditional wedding dress on instead of the white gown?
make sure you trim it regularly. split ends are nasty.
Why does a cigar clipper some to mind here?

ahem..... didn't wanna be too graphic, but now that you said it.
regular conditioning, trimming is all good for lengths, even the shortest of them. :hyper:
Some conditioning tips would be great after those rough times
yes.
physical damage can sometimes be worse than chemical damage... especially since it can stretch to twice its length when wet. It kinda makes it more fragile.

try some hot oil and wax.
try some hot oil and wax.
That stuff is brilliant.. will definitly give soft, smooth results.
LOL Oh my God
Thanks ladies
I better leave now, I needed this break
we aim to please.
If you have any other hair problems, you know where to post them. ;)

yeah you better go save some lives now. :hyper: don't think much about conditioning.
Libellula 11-04-08, 01:46 AM I look horrible with my hair up - my face just ends up looking fat, so I always keep my hair down. I had mine down on my wedding day, with the top bit swept to the side. My dress was strapless and I wanted my hair to fall on my shoulders and back.

MissKindy 11-04-08, 03:00 AM I dont like my hair to be done up so i would prefer it to be down but i'll do a bit of a move on it not just plain since the night should be ''special'' so does my hair :p
toxic_honey 11-04-08, 07:19 AM I prefer down for sure its so cute
but as i know most men and MAMs like it up!
some thinks it gives a royal look :P
I think when you put it down its more cute on a girl
Arabian Prince 11-04-08, 10:27 AM Any gothic chicks in the house?
How about a wicked mohawk? :mushroom:
I think if you've long and thick beautiful hair, then you should definitely put it down. Otherwise up. It also depends on your face shape. I think I would want mine down; I think it looks more natural that way.
And later on at night, the last thing I need is lots of hair pins to remove and "sticky" hair from all the hair spray used - if my hair happened to be up.
Mine was half up, half down.
I'd decided how I wanted it a few weeks before.. I wanted it naturally curly and all up.. on the day it just wouldn't stay. So I washed it and changed it. And yes, I had spray and all that gunk in it..
But come the evening, first thing I did was .. shower. :D

They still put lots of pins and hairspray in even if it's down.. There's no escaping that unless you leave your hair totally natural.. lol
UmKhalid 11-04-08, 12:09 PM More questions :p
Do brides need to dye their hair? Or add highlights?
Will it make the hairstyle look better if they do?
What about hair-accessories, with hair down, what kind of accessories can a bride wear?
My favourite hair colour on a bride is a natural tone with many shades.
Like brown with 3 sets of thin highlights in 3 different shades of the same tone.
Hair accessories.. fascinators are increasingly popular on brides who don;t want a tiara and veil and want to leave their hair down..

UmKhalid 11-04-08, 12:25 PM Ah yes, those are pretty. I searched for more of them but I feel like they are only nice if they were white. Other colours like red, pink or green don't look that nice.
Arabian Princess 11-04-08, 01:31 PM I think it all depends on what kind of hair you have .. I wanted to have my hair tied up but not so high .. something like the 60s style .. but my hair accessory wouldnt go with that .. so the hair stylist had it all tied up and it looked good.
its most beautiful if up, but not something thats too simple or too big lol

But it is definitely less if it is down. I tried both and my hair was always "harder" when I put it up and too many pins were used to hold my whole hair up. With my hair down, you just put fewer in order to part your hair and to keep it looking nice.
toxic_honey 11-04-08, 06:09 PM ^^ ya true!
i tried ONCE to pull my hair up and I WILL NEVER do it again :/
was a pain! they did put LOT of hairspray and plenty of pins!
and if the hair was down they put less pins and less hair spray if you asked for it
may tulip 11-04-08, 07:01 PM Personally, i would like mine to be down with curls or just blowdried to the outside. I never thought of dyeing my hair I love my natural hair colour. I always loved those simple tiaras, so I would like to have one too!
i love the down style.. i like it wavy with a flower on 1 side
Kreeemy 11-04-08, 10:04 PM I had mine up on my wedding day because i wanted to look abit different and specail since i always have it down.
Kreeemy 11-04-08, 10:05 PM But i think it mostly depends on the shape of the face. If the brides face is small and thin then it would look nicer if she had her hair up
