View Full Version : Do you deserve what you earn?

To those who work so hard at work:

At the end of the month, or whenever you receive your salary, do you feel that you've been rewarded fully?

In other words, are you satisfied with the pay or do you think you deserve more?

Of course we all want more, always. But, compare the work you do with your salary. Does your salary pay off all work you've done, and even more? Or not at all?

I hope the moderators will be kind enough to provide a poll for this..
Very satisfied.
Satisfied.
Not satisfied.
Barely pays off anything.

I had my annual performance review a couple of months ago. I averaged over 6,000 cases in a year. I don't think I get paid enough. I love my team...that part is priceless however...I think a lot of US federal workers are "overworked" BIG Time.

After taxes I make roughly $2,000 a month. I get taxed to death. Not to mention my insurance preminums. ($800 is taken out of my paycheck total per month for taxes and health insurance wahhhhhhhh) sniff sniff.

Well, but still you are doing well. I believe the minimum wage is $8 per hour?

With high medical costs in the US, you made the right choice to opt for medical insurance.

Anyway, getting to the point of the thread, its common for anyone to think they are getting paid less than they deserve. For what I do, I believe I get paid much less, but will not complain bec I lead a comfortable life

how much are teachers paid in Oman?

Depends on level of education and experience and nationality

In Omani Rials:
Native speaker - BA teaching at school about 500-800
BA teaching at college about 750-1000
MA 1200+
PhD 1500+

These are just averages - some get more some get less:)

I deserve more than I get. I do more work, Im better qualified than most of my collegues. Sadly Im penalised for being married to an Omani!

I take it you are a teacher. For additional income, why dont you do private tuition, needs patience, but really pays off.

Ive thought about it, but I dont know how to go about it and Im also a little wary - Omanis are notoriously bad when it comes to paying for tuitions..:inno:;)

NICE..wish I could get it. But I have heard stuff about private vs. public over there. We have issues here regarding private vs. public and public I mean welfare help...not good here in some cases.

Anyway, cost of living SUCKS with a capital S because everything is so high.

hmmmmmmmmmm

That is what they say, but over 50% of our high school graduates end up in the street, a very pathetic percentage of them for SQU intake and overseas scholarships, despite the tuition fees imposed in the US, citizens get good and afordable rates. We are being sucked by the pathetic, way below standard private colleges owned by the bussinessmen who always have their ways to get their garbage colleges locally accrediated.

Its true to some extent, you have be selective of your candidates. The ones to watch for are close relatives and close friends, bec you will have to decided between losing a friend or losing your time (which means money).

As for average ppl, you have a better chance of getting paid.

How could you be satisfied when you're not working yet? :os

Unless you're basing your satisfaction for the person who's paying for your living.

Actually here in Oman, the govt sector pays way better than the pvt sector (on average) Thats part of the problem here. :( And all that free health care, education etc etc you were referring to only applies to Omanis, not foreign workers. But I must say medical costs here are ridiculously low compared to the US and UK, and no one pays taxes!:p

Your talking about a British math teacher in one of the best schools in the Sultanate ..

A British math teacher or a physics or whatever teacher works in a normal school in Oman won't earn more than 700! ..

I think teachers starting up in a government school gets 500 and something .. Thats with BA only ..

500 something is considered low this days .. And if comparing to our nearest countries ..

I took a financial class last night (taking it for a month) and it is teaching me and others in it how to be frugal to save for whatever financial goals we have in mind (and mine is to buy a house)....when you start analyzing your expenses down to the penny against your salary it makes this little lady realize I can scrimp and save but sometimes....ok allot of times with the way the US $ is going down and with the way the economy is hard to do but one can if stubborn...and I am stubborn.

Satisfied .. I wish I would earn more but I cant complain about my current pay.

Hijabi, when we comapre private secor to public sector today .. we are not comparing the small companies that dont pay much but the major private companies in Oman. Civil Service are concerned how thier best people are leaving for better paying jobs.

Hmmmmmmmmm. Am not sure about that!!! Its well known that the private sector pays way higher then the government. The promotions too are faster for hardworking ppl
