If anyone have been following the English radio of Oman (90.4) recently there has been some change in music and programs recently.
One to be noticed is the “Have Your Opinion Broadcasted”. I have been listening to it for around 2 months now, and I like the music. The presenter –Dalal- sounds good, and her English is good – Has no weird accent as you would expect from the local FM-
Like I said, it’s a shift from the usual boring radio programs.
Don’t you think?
Feel free to share ur opinion –Keep it clean and friendly-

What is the show timing?

There is another program on FM Shabab (100.00) in Arabic. Its an open forum for people to call and speak their mind and complaint/request whatever they want on air, and then the show tries to get in touch with the concerned parties for answers.

This show in Arabic Shabab FM is a big step and it will revolutionize all of the government sector and how government employees work! And to be honest, its a surprise to see normal individuals complaining on Ministries and Ministers with specific details!

I really hope it continues until change occurs in Oman!

Anyhow, is Have Your Opinion a similar show?

Shabab is an NPR too...
I haven't heard of a Dalal on 90.4, has everyone switched to hi fm like me, which by the by, after all that fuss isn't as great as i thought it would be...
Maybe new blood is going to give a boost to Oman fm but then again, maybe not. from what i know its very difficult to change things in the ministry of info so , even if she is new blood, even if she presents well, i doubt she would have the ability to actually change the radio to the better in terms of quality and content of programs.

i'll listen next monday then to see if she can change my initial thoughts.

she might just be one presenter that is actually a pleasure to listen to rather than one that forces you to turn off the radio before you get a fit.

That is something good but the problem remains if the concerned parties not willing to be open and answer, they might also have caller ID in their phones they won't answer the call at all!

^That could happen but these kind of shows open the eyes of people and notifies them on what's happening and then the authorities will be forced to act.

Eventually all will respond IceTea, they can't hide forever. And in fact many people are responding.

But the radio show must go on forever, and the cases with no answers yet should be kept alive by continuous follow ups.

This show is something that has the potential to eradicate corruption and awaken all the sleeping heads, eventually raising the standards of services provided by the government employees. It must go on!

waiting till monday got me a bit curious about this new presenter

USU, if she has no wierd accent then what accent does she have ?
is she lame? is she old? whats her nationality?
i mean you've heard her before so a little description of her / her personality would give us an idea
have your opinion broadcasted...is it a show where the topics are open or does she choose them?

also - has anyone else heard her?

The concerned parties has no idea about such programs, trust me.
This might happen 10-20 years ahead.

I have to say, now that there are two English FM's, competition is starting to kick off! Both FMs are competing for audience. Which means, better music, shows... etc

Regarding the program, what exactly are you giving your opinion on?

i think thats great but i hope that when people send their problem will be patient if the matter took a long while to be solved, that is a important disadvantage in these subjects

Rollercoaster...
I don't have the exacts on her portofolio, but my first guess was...young, non-omani.
on her being lame or entetaining, ithe show was good enough for me, but then its a matter of personal prefrence isn't it? :)
The topics are chosen by the radio station-I guess-, it's more of an entertainment/conversation sort of show. Some serious topics at time, but not to the level of critisism or complaints-so far-

Btw, I don't know whats the whole fuss about having good English accent? English is English as long as its understood! Are we supposed to judge how good a show was by the accent of the host?

*shushu*
11-04-08, 10:32 AM
^^ Yes English is English, but if someone has a weird accent the clarity of his words... well, they won't be as good. So yeah, the host's accent is a factor affecting how good a show is.

Well, I don't believe I ever heard any host on the local FM who's English is unbearable. Maybe a slight hint of some accent but doesn't matter.

For me, the best English accent is that of the Caucasian South Africans!

Trust me, even if the radio program has an Egyptian English accent in it, I will still listen to it if it's useful, imagine Bush had his own Radio program, I would definitely want to listen to that as well, I can't miss listening to his spelling and pronunciation mistakes.

I liked the music yesterday, but all they talked about was the olympic's tourch in Oman

this olympic torch took over everything so i'm not surprised the show was all about it

pity was curious to hear what topics would be discussed...

she has a nice voice and you're right accent isn't bad at all
so she did not cause any abuse to my ears.

i didn't figure out what her nationality is though
