In a world, looking down upon people is so common due to whatever reason lineage, beauty, wealth or one’s education. This is a good warning for our souls.
This is an excerpt from Hayatus Sahabah. The author Sheikh Yusuf has written this narration under a Chapter: Looking down upon a Muslim.

Looking down upon a Muslim

Arwah (rad) reports, ‘In the field of Arafat, the Prophet (saw) accompanied by people of Yemen was waiting for Osama bin Zaid (rad). In the meantime, Osama (rad) did show up. The people of Yemen were upset and with contempt exclaimed, ‘Had we been delayed for this boy?’
This remark was made by the people of Yemen, since Osama (rad) was flat nosed and dark complexioned.
Arwah (rad) then mentions, ‘Because of this remark towards Osama (rad), after the death of Prophet (saw) the people of Yemen turned non believers ’.

Note: Can one imagine that just for a glance or remark of looking down upon a Muslim was a cause for Allah to snatch away the eeman or faith of the people of Yemen. Faith is to be considered to be the greatest of blessings from Allah let alone one’s wealth, education, honor or beauty. Who knows when we have looked down on others, how many doors of guidance for the hereafter Allah closed for us?

You are correct, Muslims are facing tough times and banding together is the key and hopefully those who are against extremists will shun them out if they cannot change their ways. Those who are not Muslim can embrace them as a fellow brother or sister in humanity. For me I have seen the persecution of Jews and Christians since the inception of those religions, and sadly this has happened in other religions as well. For me human beings can be quite ignorant and cruel. But I hope that in the end some semblance of peace can be found.

It was very saddening watching on CNN a few weeks ago, a dominant guy I think a senator, retracting his statement that homosexuals are endangering the US more than Muslims with no indication made to terrorism or extremism, so he had to take it back after he had been criticized for being against the gay community…

Generally, People don’t talk bad about Muslims or discriminate against them in public but they do among themselves. People stare at me when I grow a beard, very often than not, the security guy, maybe out of curiously I don’t know, come to check my name on the screen when I go play bowling.

It never bothered me though, actually I even go by my middle name “Ahmed” instead of my first name which is not as commonly known, Ahmed is easier to spell and remember.

I think hisham is talking about Muslims looking down on other Muslims for being black.

Thanks Shai for embarrassing me…ya I don’t read the whole post sometimes…I am bad…

Looking down to others is bad not just to Muslims… plus the title should be Arab looking down to the dark…

It is only Arab Mulsims who have that dirty habit… it is only Arab who use the word “slave” to describe a black person and especially Gulf Arab…

Unfortunately, I think we are racist with all kinds of races no matter what, not just with the black…we even do it with ourselves…
I always rank Arab as the second racist after Jews…

Yeah I heard about that "abd" thing.

But I think every group is racist/supremacist. The only group that's different is a small minority of rich white people, who have been conditioned in the institutes of higher learning to hate their own race instead of others. They then take jobs in the media and politics and spread the taboos of political correctness, (cultural marxism), so that most white people, especially in English speaking countries, are afraid to express any belief in their own superiority, racially or culturally.

People stare at me when I grow a beard,

It's probably because beards just look weird to them, especially if the beard is longer than the head hair.

No, it is not longer…once I shave, I don’t keep it for more than 14 days…

Btw, I start seeing more beards on Americans than in the last few years…even young college kids…
