Yesterday in a car accident in QarnAlam area, a bus crashes with a truck and 3 people die leaving 6 in critical condition and 42 remains with normal injuries and 6 were discharged with minor injuries (there could be discrpencies over injuries numbers but died are 3)
The casualties were immidietly taken to Nizwa and Adam hospitals

The accident was due to overspeeding of the bus with 57 people on it.

its about time we start reporting when we see a speeding bus. we already killed 6 kids in january accident between school bus and a car. how many more people we want these bus drivers to kill due to their carelessness?

Dreadful! How awful that all those ppl have been killed and injured.... and just because of carelessness. The driving here in Oman really scares me, too fast and too furious:D But seriously, something really needs to be done about the way ppl drive here esp the shebab! Its a car not a weapon of mass destruction! :angry:

Bus drivers sometimes speed, and they don't care about the little cars coming in their way, they just won't brake!
I saw a bus yesterday, it was loaded with school children, and i think the driver had just watched the fast and furious, he was rushing on the road, with his GSM on his ears! That's outrageous! He has responsibility for so many lives yet he drives a bus so fast with one hand and his mind going somewhere else!

Poor thing! May they rest in peace! :(

Busses and trucks..... theyre the worst! They all drive like lunatics. My husb has stopped a couple of school busses to yell at drivers - he always tell them "imagine that these are YOUR children in this bus!" My kids will NEVER travel by bus to school, I'd rather send them to school on a donkey than put them in one of those busses!

why only Omani's has to be careless drivers? why dont we talk about in the same Fahud road couple of years back when Omanisation wasnt there, 11 people were killed?

please dont say anything to omanisation or omanis...

if you find drivers driving fast or carelessly (company busses etc) you have company numbers on the side and call the company or even police and give the number to them. its a free call to police and you are cleaning the community...

all is required from the residents of oman is call police and report

Omani's are known cuz all transportation bus drivers are Omanis and expats are not allowed to drive them...if so then you mean there is zero accidents in India/Pakistan and other subcontinental countries or other parts of the world?

and care accident "ratio" is high ...

till government realizes that driving is not about how to shift gears but what to do in what kind of situation more like.

ROP driving license acquiring system should change. when we go for our attempts for license, we should be asked questions about real life situation and what we do instead of police trying to see if we have perfect the art of driving

we have 52 speed cameras in Muscat alone...but again, i know a guy who has over 1000rial fines over a period of 3 months in Muscat alone!

1-It's the company car.
2-Company will pay all the financial cost.

I really hate it when I see trucks and buses trying to overtake people, let alone trying to overtake me.. change lanes without any signal etc. They even race each other on the road!

Tried that gazzilion times...the numbers at the back are always busy!

maybe it's not the fines alone that would really work...but docking points off the driver's licence. every time the speed cam catches you, you get 3 points knocked off. soon you'll end up unable to drive.

^ they have started that system in the region (UAE) so it would be soon enough that they will bring the same system around in Oman.

But with that system , i can see myself driving without a license...

for commercial cars, it should be made a law that the initial torque from the showroom cant be higher than 10kg and max speed wouldnt go over 100kmph with the speed governers which dont cost but only 80rials per vehicle.

I dont know when companies are going to learn that this 80rials is going to save them a lot more!

This news really makes me sad . It claimed 3 innocent lives.

No offence but I seriously think Driving standard in Oman ( and other Gulf countries ) is poor, considering the level of wealth. Drivers don't fasten their seat belts. Not 10%, not 20%; but the vast majority of them don't. Even my taxi driver in Muscat laughed at me ( sitting in front ) when I used seat-belt.

Inter-city buses ( esp. between Muscat and Salalah ) are generally OK, but sometimes they follow too closely to the vehicles in front. So there are many sudden breaks.

There were almost 700 deaths on the roads of Oman in 2007. That is one of the highest rates in the world.
