MUSCAT — The Directorate-General for Meteorology and Air Navigation at the Ministry of Transport and Communi-cations yesterday dismissed the rumour being circulated that the Sultanate will be affected by unusual weather conditions.

In a statement issued yesterday, the directorate said such information should be verified from the official source, i.e. the Civil Aviation Affairs Department, which publishes weather reports via audio, visual and printed means. The department also answers calls, SMS or voice mails on weather conditions. Information will also be available on the meteorology department’s website.

The statement pointed out that the Civil Aviation Affairs Department works round the clock to follow up the weather conditions in the Sultanate. Any unusual weather condition that may affect the Sultanate will be announced. — ONA

^these are heart-breaking gossips, just when we think we have fully recovered from the disaster last year and hear there's another on the way! That's just so much stress for people to take! It will be very sad if it had happen though!

^ yeah we need rain, badly!

My mother in law was so worried about the rumor. Gonu hit her house badly last year so she's never been in peace ever since these rumors came up. I should send her this link!

People usually spread rumors because there isn't enough information, so speculation takes its place.

If a cyclone was on its way, don't your authorities warn well before hand? So why worry? Why believe what people say?

Weather sattelites orbit us and you have internet at your fingertips. Get in there and look it up.

Omani people in general like to talk about weather, if there is a single cloud in the sky then you will see everyone look at it and start his weather forecast channel broadcasting. Most likely due to lack or rain and loving rain and watching wadis.

Ironically I never heard of this rumor, and either way, rumors via sms are so common these days that I always verify anything before spreading it!

Rumors are spices in Oman .. even if the authorties denied the news, you would see people strongly beleiveing in those rumours.

The problem is not with people who can use the internet or who are educated enough to know whats true and whats not. The problem with the people who dont and they are the ones who strongly spread the rumor.

The weather authority in Oman denied the news in today's newspaper.

wow, looks like my family were smart enough not to spread this sort of gossip cause I never heard anything about it. People here seem to be way too bored that they find it necessary to make up stories to entertain themselves and the rest of Oman.
