OmanAir has announced that they will now allow mobiles to be used on planes.

That's great! Looks like I can keep in touch with people now on board the flight! I was feeling like sh!t yesterday cuz I couldn't .. and now I can, but on Oman Air :p

i think they should make a Call zone just like smoking zone, so you pick wich section you wanna sit.

I read the article, I didnt understand if we will be able use our current mobile number or not because aparantly they are alliing with a company that provides this service. Its not clear how will this be used

I think the reason why they don't want people to use phones on planes is because it disturbs people AND you don't have enough "space" for anything there

They don't allow the use of phones during the flight because it interferes with the navigation.

I think the rate will be expansive.

But it is a good idea, in case the plane is hijacked or had some problems, one can call the emergency or his family to say goodbye before the plane crashes. :D

Does anyone remember the time when people were unreachable if they were out of the house or office? And being unreachable wasn't something you'd be questioned about when you got home or who ever was trying to call you gets in touch with you?

Ah.. bliss... haha oh yeah... at thoese times people were more accurate at meeting and going out... if they agreed to 8:00 then everyone is there before 8:00, you cannot send a msg and update if your late or inquire about change of place...... i think it was good times :)

Those were the days! What could possibly be THAT important that it cant wait? I think its sad that we cant be "unreachable" anymore. Studies have shown that this obsession with mobiles and email is actually damaging our ability to concentrate and work/ learn effectively. Not to mention lack of peace and quiet. The plane used to one of the few places you could get away from it all.... now even thats gone. :no:

I read on another site that the service provider is pretty expensive Dhs6.8 per min or something like that Maybe that'll help cut down on the chatter :rolleyes:

I guess this is useful for the matter to communicate with the people on ground receiving you.

I can't believe that there are 18 replies in this thread and none of them mentioned anything about the Internet access will be available on Oman Air... This is MUCH BETTER than allowing the usage of mobile phones!!!

Mobiles are indeed everywhere. Some Mexican Churches have taken to using these scrambling devices so that cells do not work during Mass. I am like yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!
