View Full Version : Where is the thread?
I think another thread was deleted last night, predictably enough (the Oman Ruling Family one). I don't know what the final reason was, but anyway, I'm sure it was a good one.
However, could I make a suggestion please?
It's irritating when you go to look for a thread and can't find it...then move around the Sabla to see if it's now in another part of the forum, or ask someone if it's been deleted. So:
When a thread or post is deleted how about one of the following:
1. Leave the thread, delete whatever offending posts there might be, and lock it with a comment on the reason. Then it's clear what happened, and the legitimate comments of members are not hidden and wasted.
or
2. Move the thread to Admin Sabla or wherever as usual, but at the same time, put a sticky here somewhere with a list of the deleted threads and the reason. Then if members are trying to find one, they can see quickly that it's gone, and why.
Which reminds me: When a thread was moved, didn't there used to be a marker left in the original forum for a while, saying that it had been moved to "x"? Can we have that back, including for deleted threads maybe?
marianna 03-04-08, 05:49 PM Yes I noticed that also and to be fair if we cannot objectively talk about the Sultan I think to be fair we should steer clear of discussing personal lives of any world leader if not then that is being heavily one sided and hypocritical in the severest severest degree. Thanks! :)
My first post here at the Sabla (http://www.englishsabla.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15007)
I was locked out for awhile.
Till one of the mods asked why ... then was allowed to post.
You are pretty much not allowed to say anything ... unless it's praise.
Such is life in Oman and ES.
marianna 03-04-08, 05:57 PM But only praising and not questioning legitimate concerns...doesn't have to be about the personal life of a certain leader why can't they. I am not being an anal *** in asking this I honestly want to know.
Not really. This forum is Omani, and it's run by individuals who live in Oman and openly put their names on it. Whether you agree with the rules or not, the special consideration for discussion of HM Sultan Qaboos and Omani politics in general, is there for a reason.
If members write personal things about Omani public figures, which is unacceptable in Oman, then it is the administrators who are risking the come-back. So it's only fair to them to follow this rule particularly carefully. There are other places you can write about this subject, but on this forum it's against the published rules, and couldn't really be any other way.
minerva 03-04-08, 06:04 PM oh i was looking for that thread. why did it put away. i don't know what i done wrong.
marianna 03-04-08, 06:05 PM Like I said, I totally understand not talking about the sultan's personal life but public policy should be freely discussed because for me you always want the best for the people. I am not talking about uprising etc etc...only questioning policies that may seem a little outdated or maybe not in the best interests of the Omanis.
Well, as I said in Jack's "wtf" ("why the fuss?") thread...there is a difference between discussing policy and discussing individuals. The former goes without any problem, the latter doesn't.
Anyway, this was a suggestion about how members can know easily about deleted and moved threads. It wasn't a value-judgement on the decision to move that one. Perhaps you could open a new thread, revive Jack's, or go to the other one discussing rules, if that's what you want to talk about.

marianna 03-04-08, 06:14 PM Cool mimosa and if people could stick to topics in all threads we will be one happy family. :)
Great suggestions - I think the team will take great consideration of your suggestion.
Minivan, why?! You know the answer to that question from the other thread, stop spoiling mine please!
Ufff...not a single reply yet commenting on the actual suggestion!
Thanks Lym....there is hope :D

no cos i bloody weren't here when it got deleted and when whatever happend to it to get it deleted happened.
Mimosa:
I think it's a great idea. I wouldn't push it too hard though, because the mods are already overworked.
And I think your understanding attitude about Omani politics is perfect. I agree. Sometimes innocent-seeming questions can raise problems or issues into the mind that those who ask them may not know about. We have to be sensitive to that.

Understood Jeff but these members are not children...they have a right to question public policy and will raise a thread on it thanks
All the questions will be answered very soon
Thug4Life 04-04-08, 12:21 AM as for the Aim of this thread *the suggestion* I think its logical...
We shall LOOK into it...
THOUGH we dont get to move or delete threads That often...
same time if the thread was moved the initiator gets to know usually through PM sent ....
BUT any ways....we shall see....
Thanks Mimo...
As for the other off topics.....reffer to Rule 1 of English Sabla. and some of mimo replies above...
DITTO
The E.S team will not be flexible or understanding when it comes to any thread that involves discussions or questions about H.M Sultan Qaboos, or any member of the royal family. We will just not take that risk. To be viewed as hypocritical because of this rule is something we are willing to live with if it means that we the Admins of the sabla would never get into any trouble with Oman's Authority.
Regarding the suggestion mimosa posted, the active members of the team will discuss it and see if they're willing to add that extra task to their sabla schedule.
