View Full Version : Necklace?
Superbia 30-03-08, 05:41 PM I recently bought a necklace with a pendent that says Allah (God) on it. Out of curiosity, is there any proof that mentions that entering the toilet wearing something that has Allah on it a sin? Or makrooh? Anything of that sort.. 'Coz my sister was telling me that I shouldn't enter the toilet wearing it, which I found rather odd :os
Endure Whisper 30-03-08, 07:04 PM I heard the same thing your sister told you. I don't know how solid that is.
Superbia 30-03-08, 07:05 PM ^This is why I'm not too convinced, since there's no back-up to what is being told to me. :os
Endure Whisper 30-03-08, 07:07 PM ^ Maybe there is. Did you ask around for a solid proof?
Arabian Princess 30-03-08, 07:16 PM Its out of respect for Allah's name .. thats what I know
Superbia 30-03-08, 07:17 PM People say this and that, but when you ask for proof.. No one seems to have a solid one :os
minerva 30-03-08, 07:40 PM an opinion from an outsider...
you wear the necklace out of devotion. same as i wear the cross. the cross is on my neck whether i sleep, cook, work, shop, watch tv. and even in the bathroom. i don't think about removing it.
you go to the toilet as a natural need.
if you have any doubts, don't wear it inside the house where you might use the toilet more. but if you happen to do so, i'm sure it's loses you no points in the eyes of God. it's not like you took it to the toilet with evil intentions.
Superbia 30-03-08, 07:52 PM Minerva, I can't agree with you more to be honest! Having to remove it every time I enter the toilet, isn't exactly convenient :os After all, isn't how you behave based on your intentions? (Al-A3mal bilniyat) I don't understand why people say that it's "not good" or "bad."
People say this and that, but when you ask for proof.. No one seems to have a solid one :os
Use common sense, Superbia. You need no proofs.
How precious is the name Allah to you? How filthy are toilets, no matter how clean they are?
Now, would you want a precious thing like the name Allah to enter such a filthy place?
Superbia 30-03-08, 08:07 PM ^..and another person :os Amjad I'm asking for Proof, not why.
No proof is needed. Just use common sense as I mentioned earlier.
FAITH86 30-03-08, 08:10 PM Ask a Shiekh then...
I couldn’t find any proof of what you are asking rather than the respect that should be for the name of Allah
it is not recommended to wear necklaces with Allah’s name or Qur’anic verses on them. Thus, she has to take it off whenever she enters the WC or she wants to have marital relations with her husband. In other words, the name of Allah and Qur’anic verses deserve respect and they should not be brought to those private places

Superbia 30-03-08, 08:52 PM Thanks Storm for providing that link, but since there isn't a solid proof.. I'm still not convinced :os Different scholars may say different things, so to what extent are they actually reliable? Not quite.
I don't think you need to take it off. Having the necklace around your neck 24/7 is something, and the thought of disrespecting God is up to the person and how s/he looks at it.
Its all in the heart!
I heard that too. I thought it was because we were taught that the bathroom is the place where the devils and the jinns love to reside. We are even instructed to enter a bathroom with our left feet - so it must be a different sort of room from the bedroom for example. Flowing from that, respecting God's name is by not taking it into a place which is "filthy" as it already has religious regulations portraying that.
squinty 30-03-08, 09:16 PM Thanks Storm for providing that link, but since there isn't a solid proof.. I'm still not convinced :os Different scholars may say different things, so to what extent are they actually reliable? Not quite.
I am with her on this! :)
If we use common sense then yeah no one should wear anything with Holy names written on it.
But people may take this the wrong way and say if we do this we are insulting God which is not being done here.
But sometimes you want PROOF from the Holy Qur'an or Prophet Mohammed :PBUH: sayings about this to make sure.
I don't like the scholars saying since they ALL have different opinions and they NEVER stay on one...:mmhmm:
(sector problems... which has to do with rules and all..)
So each scholar may say something DIFFERENT and you will not know who to believe! :)
Superbia 30-03-08, 09:26 PM ^Exactly. I don't follow what so and so scholars believe, since they have no solid proof. All your actions are based on your intentions, therefore I don't think that by removing your necklace you're respecting God, instead by trying to fulfill the 5 pillars of Islam is the way we can respect God. Ignoring the vagueness and trying to meet the clear. This is the way I see it, and since there is no proof I'm not entitled to take off my necklace that has Allah's name on it every time I enter the toilet.
squinty 30-03-08, 09:47 PM As I always tell everyone.. If you are not sure... And you are a good Muslim just go with your heart and let God show you the way! :)
AMARANT 30-03-08, 09:48 PM ^^ not everything u do in religion is a must, and not everything u stop doing is a must-not...
so if u dont want to bother, dont take it off when going to the toilet...
leaving the Holy Quran in the garage next to the old cars tires isnt a sin righ? but i'd rather not do that...
Superbia 30-03-08, 10:27 PM leaving the Holy Quran in the garage next to the old cars tires isnt a sin righ? but i'd rather not do that...
That's an extremely inappropriate example :os
AMARANT 30-03-08, 10:38 PM ^^ yah that's an extreme example
im just showing u, some stuff, are not prohibited, but u wont do it, out of respect...
even leaving the quran in a clean desk in the garage isnt a good thing...

No one said its HARAM .. if you insist on taking Allah's name into the bathroom you are not sinning.. but usually its out of respect. Its not advicable to mention Allah's name in a bathroom because its not a clean place what about wearing it?
Its not a matter of proof or not .. I personally think its not respectable so I try to avoide it as much as I can. There are times and places where I cant do that esp. if I am not home, then I dont worry about it that much.
Threadlike 30-03-08, 11:48 PM It's just...manners with God really.
You wouldn't take a picture of your mom or your dad and gaze at it in the toilet...It's a very petty thing, but it's just all about how we percieve the ways in which we may recieve blessing; I admire you for being so keen. I would never be that keen. But my guess would be to try and avoid it as much as possible, not out of it being Haram, but out of it being a bit rude and all.
minerva 31-03-08, 01:07 AM think about this matter logically....do you think God is really gonna be bothered if you take a necklace with his holy name to the loo? if you wear it out of devotion and as a sign you want to show everyone your love for him....and you use the toilet as part of your daily routine...it's what's in the heart that counts. i'm sure in his divine wisdom he appreciates a gesture of love where somebody decides to wear His name in preference to another kind of necklace. i think he'd be more bothered if you wore ''his necklace'' 'just for show' and then done things he didn't approve of. i don't wear jewellery in the house because i'm in and out of detergents and stuff. but rest assured, if i took it off in the room next to the bathroom, i'd definitely lose it.
ToomuchaT 31-03-08, 01:25 AM What about taking your mobile to the bathroom while you have installed Quran in it or something like that?
I have a ring which has the name of Allah " الرزاق or The Sustainer ", the guy whom I got the ring from asked me strictly niether take it to the toilet nor wear it on the left hand!!
Maybe there is no proof, but there is a solid reason in the heart.
as I always say:
God told them "slaughter a cow"
they asked "what color is it? how big is it? we are confused!"
Diabian 31-03-08, 01:37 AM So you are asking for a proof?
Regardless of is it Halal or Haram.. I know you won't change what you already been doing, so why wastign time?!
Superbia 31-03-08, 07:47 AM ^Huh? Wasting time?
I'm just curios why do people claim that this and that is wrong, and when you ask them for proof everyone goes mute, instead they question you with an extreme example or label you as a "bad" person for doing so and so.. I'm not looking for a question as a comeback, proof is what I'm asking for. But no one seems to absorb what I'm looking for. Oh well. You can't just say regardless if it's halal or haram, this makes a HUGE difference if there's proof, it's not a let it go thing.. :os

Superbia, no one said it will make you a bad person. Everyone is just saying that its a matter of respect as muslims has been taught that bathrooms are the filthiest places of all .. maybe it comes from the backround of how old bathrooms used to function and not how modern ones are. There is no need for proof and I doubt anyone would bring you a proof .. its not a matter of it being halal and haram where you need an ayah or a hadeeth to prove to you, its a matter of islamic manner.
You are not convinced and you think that it doesnt make sense, then go ahead and wear .. nothing will go wrong inshallah and you will not gain any sin.
UmKhalid 31-03-08, 10:16 PM Maybe it has something to do with the teaching that says mentioning God's name is not allowed in the toilet. And the same reasons that makes it not allowed is applied to other things like bringing the Qur'an into the toilet even if you're not reading it.
I'll take it this way. It's Ok we have the holy quran in our mobiles and we can go to the toilet with our mobile but without putting it as a tone. So if we measure this to that, it means you can wear the necklace wherever you go Superbia and am sure that your intention is so pure and our prophet said انما الاعمال بالنيات ولكل امرأ ما نوى ( Deeds are according to the intention ). And also we have Allah's names in our heart and mind and myself speaking, I mostly say thikr everywhere and sometimes i forget and say it in the toilet and I know God won't be mad at me for this coz i did it unintentionally. However, as AP already said: It's a matter of respect to the great name of Allah.
UmKhalid 31-03-08, 10:41 PM Found it!
You're feelings were right, Superbia! No problem with it.
I was searching and came across a hadeeth that says that the Prophet :PBUH: always wore a ring and never took it off even when he went to the toilet. The ring had his stamp on it: Mohammed the messenger of Allah.
Superbia 31-03-08, 10:56 PM ^ Oh wow! Thank God my fuss made a point! Thanks a lot for sharing UmKhalid, truly appreciated :)
UmKhalid 31-03-08, 11:02 PM We should be thanking you since your question made us realize something we've misunderstood as religion, when our religion says it's totally ok.
