Loud Snoring Linked To Heart Disease (http://www.topnews.in/health/loud-snoring-linked-heart-disease-says-study-21374)

Researchers of Semmelweis University in Budapest have conducted a study and discovered that loud snoring can give rise to heart attacks and strokes.

After surveying about 12, 463 Hungarians, the researchers discovered that loud snorers are more likely to have 34 percent higher risk of heart attack, 67 percent greater chance of suffering a stroke and 40 percent greater odds of having hypertension as compared to peers who do not snore.

Snoring mostly occurs in obese people. It is a sound that produces from greater amount of fat in the back of the throat which vibrates as one sleep. It is a sign that the airway is being partially blocked.

Drinking alcohol, using muscle relaxer, drugs and smoking can also give birth to snoring. So, one must take care because prevention is better then cure.

So if someone from your family or friends snore, make sure they seek medical help for their sake & perhaps your own sake for a better night's sleep

My dad snores like a buzz saw and has had four heart attacks. He is 65. However he is skinny and tall. (6 feet 1 inch).

Thanks Marianna for your valuable input

You should know that as the person becomes older his/her tendency to snore rises, the person who sleeps on the back is more likely to snore

Last & not the least, alcohol, which is consumed regularly in the West & another bad trend which has started lately is the regular use of sleeping pills like Valium

I know on my side, both parents snore. Mom because she is overweight...dad well because he always has. None drink. Sometimes snoring can be caused by a deviated septum which has to do with your sinuses and the way air goes through it. There is corrective surgery for that and usually I have seen (had to sleep in co-ed tents while in the military so this was prevelant due to hearing it so much) that men snore more than women. Could be a genetic makeup of how the sinuses are constructed.

Marianna, anything that blocks the airways can lead to snoring, deviated nasal septum is one of those

Did you know that up to 60% of the population can have NSD (deviation)?

Smoking also leads to chronic nasal congestion

I caught myself snoring last night because I have a bad bad cold and am currently taking antibiotics. Was funny. I woke up and was on my stomach and my face pressed against the pillow.

very valuable info.
a friend of mine used to always fall asleep at work, or while eating lol.
he's a very loud snorer. doctor diagnosed sleep apnoea, where his snoring was not letting him sleep properly and he was straining the heart.
giving up on a lot of 'extra' food and losing half the body weight helped a lot.

They say it's nothing and doesn't deserve an operation. It's not the snoring thing which bothers me cause my snoring is so light Lol but when summer comes my nose tends to bleed alot because of that cut.

It's nasty specially when you keep pressing on your nostril and be compelled to swallow your blood from inside till it subside and stop. I think I'll give it a shot.

Back to the topic: One of my friends snores too loud and we recoreded his snoring while he was asleep and said that we will scare the children with it. Now Am worried about him and should tell him about this information. He's not obese, doesn't drink neither smoke and I don't think he has any problem in his nasal septum or his heart.
