I'm looking for a software that is more or less similar to Windows Movie Maker which is a lil bit advanced.
A software that can do the following:
Split videos
add audio clips
add video clips
add text (with various effects)
add slide transitions
and certain effects such as B&W and sepia.
Any suggestions?

Try Ulead VideoStudio 10. It has a user friendly interface, very similar to that of Windows Movie Maker. It can also do many other things that WMM can't do, such as strip the audio from a video and save or delete it. Not to mention the bigger library of effects and various formats that you can save your videos to.
I've accustomed myself to work with Ulead's VideoStudio. I find it much more functional.
Let me know if you have trouble downloading it. :)
^^ In this software .. When you import video into the collection .. Does it take a long time ?!
Because for WWM .. It takes ALOOT of time! ..

I believe that has very little to do with the actual software you're using, if anything at all. :)
Can I ask a similar question please? I have a little point-and-click camera that I've had for a while, with a movie recording feature on it too. It makes these ".mov" files that are fine to play on the PC, but I can't paste them into Windows Movie Maker. Is there any software I can steal that can change them into MPEG or similar, or even an editing package that accepts this format as well?
Mims,
.mov is the Apple Quicktime format.
I've found Adobe Premiere to be excellent. It's pretty complex, so Premiere Elements would be a better option.
Don't waste your time with Pinnacle Studio which is crap.
If you don't want to spend big bucks, you can try the open source alternative : Jashaka
http://jahshaka.org/
It handles .mov format files.
You da man! Cheers bigears!

PowerDirector from CyperLink...a good one and it doesn't need training or courses, very eay to use and has great effects and capabilities as well..
Adobe Premiere for video editing (cutting/primming) and Adobe AfterAffect for adding some cool effects to your project. Thoes are specially used by video and rich media professionals.
