View Full Version : Dubai to set up Prophet Mohammad Museum
His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has ordered the setting up of The Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) Museum, to highlight the life and the noble message of the Prophet.
Shaikh Mohammad entrusted the Dubai Authority for Culture and Arts, chaired by Shaikh Mayed Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to supervise the implementation of the project.
The decision aims to set up a global destination that reflects the status of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and his great character that carried the message of Islam and became a model for over 1.3 billion Muslims.
The museum will familiarise people from all over the world with the true life history of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and his contribution to changing the course of history and influencing the political, economic, cultural and social aspects of the entire nation's life.

This could be a good step to introduce our Prophet :PBUH: to the world in the right way without the media brainwashing the non Muslims with wrogn veiws.
** What do you think this a good idea or a bad one ?
** Will it help change the view of Prophet :PBUH: in specefic and Islam in general ?
From a non-muslim perspective, I think it borders on idolatry. I think a museum of Islam would be better, which would incorporate Mohammad and the stuff from the article.
Although I'm not fond of modern religion, I believe religion in itself is beautiful, something to admire and possibly learn from. I'm all for it.
eL3yo0oN 12-03-08, 02:35 PM I think this is a great opportunity for everyone, muslims and non, to learn about our prophet (pbuh) life and he was able to spread islam.
It will make ppl aware of how islam really is a peaceful religion despite what the media has drawn.

PBUH was a great character and even this museum might not be enough to cover a decent fair of him. I believe bordering idolatry is good. It's the same idea used in biographies. Then again, for example, some people enjoy reading biography books while others don't.
Arabian Princess 12-03-08, 02:41 PM This kind of actions are the best to tackel issues like the denemark one. I am all for it.
NicoBambi 12-03-08, 02:54 PM My point of view, as an european, i think dubai isn't the right town.. the museum is a good idea but not in dubai.. we see dubai as the town of tourism and shopping so they will take this museum as a tourist thing, not in a decent way, i mean not seriously...
so disagree.
Endure Whisper 12-03-08, 03:20 PM I agree :) but I was thinking like Nico, is Dubai the best place?
How about Sharjah for instance? Isn't Sharjah supposed to be the most religious region in UAE?

I think that being in Dubai is a good idea cause as you said Dubai is a town of tourism, and this is a museum that presents the Prophet :PBUH: life and Islam which will be a good for those tourists to visit and take what they see to their countries
I agree :) but I was thinking like Nico, is Dubai the best place?

It is not about a choice of a religious region or not ( and who said Sharjah is the Religious regions in UAE :os )
It is about the place that most of people around the world know, and will be interested to visit. And most important it is the initiative of Dubai government as a way to answer to what is going around world in offending our Prophet and Islam image.
dam3t-malak 12-03-08, 03:51 PM I agree with the idea itself, I think there would be a great chance to introduce Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) to foreigners and non-Muslims, and to change their wrong views about him and about Islam as well. But for the place as Endure and Nico said I don’t think it’s the right place. But there might be a point from that. I think maybe they have chosen Dubai because its the town of tourism so the number of tourists or none Muslims will be much more than any other region in UAE, and maybe this Museum is indicated the most to the those people because they who have got the bad picture and views about the Prophet I mean we know who’s the Prophet but they don’t know so we should clear the picture to them.
Anyway it’s just my point of view about it.

Exactly :)
AMARANT 12-03-08, 03:59 PM i'm with the idea, i think it would change many views the western people have about Islam and the Prophet (PBUH)...
i had an arguement with myself weather if Dubai is the best placce or not...
i voted Dubai, cuz many tourists will check the museum while it's there, more than the people who will go to another place (e.g Sharjah) just to check the museum...
Hehe I think I get what Amarant means...Dubai's not exactly a "spiritual" kind of place...
Well..why not? Just hope they don't put it next to a bar or a brothel.
FAITH86 12-03-08, 04:45 PM This would be just great if they managed to implement it in the right way as we all expected. I've always liked the way Shiekh Mohammed bin Rashid thinks.
It's a massive contribution in the mission of spreading the message of Islam as well as showing the world who's the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) to the whole world as Dubai is now-hands down-an international desination. And for this reason I think Dubai is definitely the perfect place for this museum.
I'm happy :)!
I hope it is not done for commercial reasons.
UmKhalid 12-03-08, 07:04 PM ^ We can never know if anyone's intention is true or not, and as Muslims we are taught to always think the best of others.
Very nice idea, I'd love to visit it.
It's a great idea and i think Dubai is almost the best place since it's a cosmopolitan city and it's visted by flow of non muslims every day. Thus, this will depict the real prophet Mohammed :PBUH: . And i wish as IceTea said, this is not for commercial porpuses.
minerva 13-03-08, 01:12 AM so what will be shown in a Mohammed museum? since paintings can't be shown...stuff like writings maybe?
Lightning2 13-03-08, 01:15 AM well i strongley agree.....those who said...sharjah is a better place....remember that sh.mohamed bin rashid the ruler of dubai orderd this...i look at it as an internal dubai thing its not somthing that the uae as a state orderd.....
any way....dubai is already doing many activites to provide better understanding of isalm... i remember the thing they do in ramathan......they invite some guests (tourists and non muslims) to share iftar with them....then they give them a presentation about islam + books and materials ....then they also sit in like a sabla...and discuss anything they like........they do this daily during ramathan and it became papular.....so i think its an addition to these efforts.....
so what will be shown in a Mohammed museum? since paintings can't be shown...stuff like writings maybe?
This is not going to be the Louvre museum
Basically, i think, it is going to show the Prophet :PBUH: personal life and history. His relationships with others and stories about what happened in his era. I think this is not only going to be for non muslims but also a good place for muslims to visit and know more things about their prophet :PBUH: . And yes writings, scripts, his letters to kings calling them for Islam ( like the letter sent to Oman King at that time: Jaifar and Abd Al.Mawali ) . The painting will be illustrations about the wars and basic islamic lifestyles i guess.
cLueLess 13-03-08, 04:37 AM I think that Dubai is the perfect location for this museum. I think that tourist who go to Dubai for leisure and shopping would also like to check the museum out while they're at it, but most wouldn't go out of their way just to see it. I know I wouldn't.
The Louvre, for example, is a very famous tourist attraction, partly, but not completely, because of it's Parisian location. I don't think it would receive as many daily visitors had it been in another part of France. Location is a very important factor.

Media can counter media effectively only.
Museum can give logistic support, lot of research materials, inputs but to stop brainwashing needs intellectual programming , propaganda.
shamsery 13-03-08, 12:10 PM highlight the life and the noble message of the Prophet.
I see ominous sign.
Who are interpreting the message , is very important.
shamsery 13-03-08, 12:18 PM The museum will familiarise people from all over the world with the true life history of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and his contribution to changing the course of history and influencing the political, economic, cultural and social aspects of the entire nation's life.
Has all the sect of Islam reached to a common platform?
Different sect , different school of thought till not yet think same way?
Some thinks destroying Twin Tower justified, some thinks, wrong.
It is a good effort but depends the results on us and our attitude.
Hope Allah(swt) will help them to overcome future controversy.
shamsery 13-03-08, 12:27 PM Hehe I think I get what Amarant means...Dubai's not exactly a "spiritual" kind of place...
Well..why not? Just hope they don't put it next to a bar or a brothel.
Disappointing comments.
Let me hope you will be proved wrong.
shamsery 13-03-08, 12:29 PM I hope it is not done for commercial reasons.
Soft comment but fact is , not unlikely.
Threadlike 13-03-08, 08:24 PM ( like the letter sent to Oman King at that time: Jaifar and Abd Al.Mawali )
I thought that was in a fort in Oman. I remember seeing it in Nizwa I guess.
And I don't think Oman would give it away or were there copies of it ?
Anyhow, that does sound like a good idea.
I think I'll have to give it a visit when it's done.
marianna 13-03-08, 08:43 PM Is there a website that has the architectural plans to what this building will look like?
Superfreak 13-03-08, 09:27 PM Sounds like a good idea plus Dubai is the right location for it.
minerva 13-03-08, 09:42 PM what sort of things would one find in such a museum?
Dubai is the most growing tourist destination in the Middle East, all year round.
even if it's not exactly the holiest place on earth (and i'm not sure why should it be) but it's the right place for a museum to gain a lot of visitors..so i believe it's the right choice..great idea.
marianna 13-03-08, 10:09 PM It is a smart move to have it in Dubai. When I was there I was totally amazed at the traffic and you are talking to a woman whose been to Chicago and Seoul. Both heavy traffic cities. Will be interesting and if I am ever in that part of the Gulf again will ck it out.
