As we all know selling plate numbers is a business now and it bring millions, i am a little bit ciourse now so i have some questions

1- Why is plate numbers sold in high prices, like a one digit plate number is higher in price than a villa * not talking about The Wave* but i am talking about the ordinary villa's people build then sell.

2- Do you agree that selling plate numbers is a big business now?

3- If you had a plate number that is really nice ... would you sell it or keep it for you?!

well......the main reason for the price increase is the limited number of speical numbers + high demand.......so ya its a big business that doesnt have rules or regulations thats why priceses shooot up then fall down......and probably the main problem is the long chain of brokers who r involved !......

Ahaa! Amarant now its not only rich people sell plate numbers ... Now people buy them after 1 day they sell it stright away! ... In my opinion it is a big business because people these days likes buying such stuff as the quote says money changes people * sometimes* ... if i had a special plate number no i wont sell it , it is a special number why sell it?! + money dosnt bring comfort!

Some pople just have that obsession of being different or unique, most probably to show-off and feel special.

Yeah, ppl over here are getting crazy about it and willing to sell their houses/cars for this.

Some of my family members has nice plate numbers like 1 digit and 2 digits and 3 digits * uncles cousins father mother ...ect*

If I had a "special number" I think I would sell it. I would not want it on my car, because I would hate people to think I might have been stupid and vain enough to pay for it!

I just hope that ROP one day starts to "officially" "sell" those plate numbers to people, instead of giving them away. Of course, they are not given away to anyone. They are rather given away only for those who have connections at ROP or anyone whom is in a high position in the state. Though, I hear that nowadays it became hard to reserve a plate number from ROP, no matter what rank you have... I don't think that is done because ROP finally thought of selling the numbers in open auctions, though. I think it became hard nowadays because actually there are hardly any unregistered special plate numbers available! lol.

The business starts when you get the plate number for free from ROP, and then sell it for thousands of rials. And the same thing keeps going. But I really think that this is unfair. They should just simply sell those numbers in open auctions, like UAE, and the auctions should be conducted by ROP itself. That way it would be fair, and it would even bring money for ROP. But by giving the numbers away ROP is really not getting anything from that. They could gain millions and millions of rials, if they thought of selling all the special plate numbers in open auctions.

I agree with NicoBambi ... And i heard that in Qatar the plate numbers are sold in vhigh prices because they dont have letters its only that 1 plate number and you cant find another one in the whole Qatar so they sell it in vhigh prices!

Mimosa lol but some people dosnt buy these numbers they can get them from that place it self because they have high postions in the country! i know people that dint buy the numbers they can get them from the ROP!

I agree with Amjad, they should be auctioned like in other countries. Then rich buffoons can buy them honestly and the money can go to a good cause. In Abu Dhabi, the money goes to a charity to do with road safety.

and 3. Officials with big positions and high police ranks won't get to reserve special numbers for free, and sell them for over 200,000 OMR the next day.

Honestly selling these "rare" plate numbers is insane! ROP should impose stricter rules against selling and buying. I really can't understand why a person buy a very expensive plate number on his/her old echo! Nonsense. This money should go for better causes.

there are reasons why some cars hold plate numbers much more expensive than the car itself like:

1. some people at ROP have low rank jobs, yet, they can get good numbers...

2. some hig-rank people, reserve the plate number, by putting it on a "whatever-car", till they buy thier fancy cars and put the number plates on them...


i think ROP now prohibited the transfer of plates' ownership between strangers, u can only do that with a family member...

And they have nice numbers but its in there cars that they use! * dont worry they dint buy them :P* , BUT i think the plan that amarant mentioned will be a good plan because not everybody will have special rare numbers it will be few and sold in a affordable and reasonable price! My family does own some of those special numbers but I won't fight to get myself one 'em! I won't support the idea of selling them, cuz I think if we do, we'll support this silly business and let "showing-off mentalities to grow up!

Whats so bad about having a special plate number? ok its the same if the radar catches you whether you have a special plate or not, you'll pay the same fine!
