View Full Version : Priests, nuns and marriage.. El Rey 06-03-08, 12:21 AM Can catholic priests and nuns get married ? If no then why. HITMAN 06-03-08, 12:26 AM Yes they can get married But they don't because of some man made laws El Rey 06-03-08, 12:31 AM What man made laws ( Whose laws specifically )? I mean was it mentioned in the bible that they should not marry ? If not then why don't they now ? and if they did what will happen to them ? Are there some conditions for it ? Abdullah II 06-03-08, 01:40 AM according to a catholic man told me. its because whenever the priests die, all their wealth and belongings goes to the church since he has no offspring. IceTea 06-03-08, 07:44 AM Interesting, afterall the church needs an income. I think it is one of the main reasons of child abuse stories we keep hearing. Are priests and nuns more religious than prophets? amo_l_oman 06-03-08, 08:00 AM Nuns are married to Christ, but dnt remember where this came from IceTea 06-03-08, 08:03 AM Then they are married to God. amo_l_oman 06-03-08, 08:13 AM yes, so they say When jeff is back will explain El Rey 06-03-08, 12:29 PM I really miss Jeff :( squinty 06-03-08, 04:46 PM ^^ Off topic! :hyper: But I think Jeff might have an answer! :) Shai 08-03-08, 03:42 AM It's obviously because they're following the example of Jesus Christ, and trying to live pure lives dedicated to spirituality instead of sexuality. Abdullah II 08-03-08, 04:40 AM But it is against Human Nature. Women are covered Up from head to toe and not allowed to get married and have children, isn't this oppression? Threadlike 08-03-08, 02:43 PM ^I guess they view it as a form of 'self-purification'. To resist this need is to attain a state of purity and complete devotion to God so far as I can see it. But of course if more Christian members can enlighten us, it would be a delight. El Rey 08-03-08, 02:50 PM It's obviously because they're following the example of Jesus Christ, and trying to live pure lives dedicated to spirituality instead of sexuality. So Jesus PBUH haven't got married ? And he's a God in their belief so if he didn't marry that doesnt mean they don't since they are not Gods too. And isn't this too harsh ? I believe many people will refuse to be nuns and priests because of this. ^I guess they view it as a form of 'self-purification'. To resist this need is to attain a state of purity and complete devotion to God so far as I can see it. But of course if more Christian members can enlighten us, it would be a delight. So who is married is not pure ? Does marriage identifies purifications ? I agree we need aa christian view in this but apparently no one has the answer. Threadlike 08-03-08, 03:01 PM ^I have no idea! I was just giving my opinion on one side of it. |
