Fear of a Black Jesus: The Politics of Religion (http://www.opednews.com/articles/genera_min__pau_080302_fear_of_a_black_jesu.htm)

The evidence of Yeshua (Jesus) being Black is overwhelming. Many in the Black community believe that the Messiah was black because of the area of the world in which he lived. The so-called Middle East is actually part of Africa divided from the rest of the continent by the man made Suez Canal. Many believe that the Hebrews living in this area two thousand years ago were people of color as it would have been virtually impossible for anyone to live in Northern Africa and have a pale complexion.

The image of Yeshua that is in many homes and churches is not historically correct but came out of the minds of European artists such as Michelangelo, who was commissioned in 1505 by Pope Julius II to paint certain biblical pictures. Many believe that these pictures were used to justify the African Holocaust (the Trans-Atlantic slave trade) and to create an inferiority complex in African people that would be passed down from generation to generation.

The effect of this image being so devastating that even after the physical chains of slavery were removed, the mental chains would still be in place, causing some black Americans, even in the 21st century to reverence the white man as God. African Americans have been taught since birth that nothing good could come out of Africa and that African people have not contributed anything to humanity, worthwhile. Therefore, it is impossible for some to conceptualize the Messiah being anything but white.

To Muslims it makes no difference what colour the individual is, Bilal Al-Habashi was a man of colour & he is considered among the noble companions of prophet Muhammad :PBUH:

Why some are having "Fear of a Black Jesus" syndrome?

Racism and nothing else. But does color matter when it comes to prophets ? i don't think so.

Is it true to say that white Christians picture Jesus as white man?
Is it true to say that black Christians picture Jesus as black man?

How about God and the holy ghost?

This is hilarious.

Jesus's bloodline is not something unknown. If he were black, then most other prophets were black too.

Would that make a difference? Absolutely not! Why would his skin colour have any bearing on who Jesus was?

In shops around christmas time here on will find cribs with white baby Jesus's and black baby Jesus's cos in the end, it doesn't make a difference. He could have been green or purple. He'd still be the son of God, according to our beliefs.

I hope it doesn't make a difference to you should Jesus or Mohammed been black..

So if Jesus is black. This means that God is black too since you believe that He's his father.

Save yourself the embarassment and learn a thing or two about the religion you are trying to take the piss out of, first.

Thalia, what El Rey said is based on logic, if you believe that Jesus is son of God then his color will be related to his father color, No?

Why are you so pissed about the question ? I was just relating things together. You believe that Jesus is: He'd still be the son of God .. so, what's wrong about my comment ? When you guys give God human features then expect Him to be like Humans. White or black or whatever pictures you draw him. And this shouldn't piss you off i guess.

Christianity believes that Jesus is God in human form. It never said God is human in form. So how can God be black?

I'm not pissed off. I'm amused at how a group of you never fail to make yourselves look like complete fools. But I'll keep that to myself. wouldn't wanna cause offence of anything now would we? :hmm:

As far as I know,
If Jesus PBUH had black skin colour, it does not necessarily mean that God has black 'skin colour'. God (as far as I can conclude) has God-like properties, not Jesus-like properties while Jesus has both human and Godly properties.
Or am I mistaken?

And of course I can't see at all how it would affect the position that Jesus was the Son of God in Christianity.

Ha ?
So God came in a black body ( supposing jesus is black ) this means part of the trinity is black. God is black since they all revolve in each other. Think about it logically. Of course am against this since we Muslims believe that God has no human features and never been in human form. But when you think about it, according to your belief, then God can be black.

I'm not pissed off. I'm amused at how a group of you never fail to make yourselves look like complete fools. But I'll keep that to myself. wouldn't wanna cause offence of anything now would we? :hmm

Mohammed been black..

This is not hilarious.

Many people meet , seen Muhammad (Pbuh) with their eyes.
They have narrated how he was look like?
Considering the tome frame of history , Muhammad (Pbuh) is a case of yesterday.
Yes, Muslim are not allowed to make portrait of him.
It has a logical reason.
As this thread is not related with that , hope to write details in future.
Thanks.

In Malta a Black Madonna rests in a small church in Hamrun, with the church being possibly the oldest one in the area (This can mean 'tanned Madonna', 'brown Madonna', or 'Madonna of Samaria').

Like Father, Like Son.

lol that black madonna hasn't got black features, it was probably blackened with the candle soot on it or due to the wood used for the icon.
but anyway, God is black if you watch Bruce Almighty or Evan Almighty too many times, you might be convinced :D

I don't really understand why you are arguing over his skin colour.

Jesus or Nabi 3eesa PBUH was a great icon to both Christianity and Islam, and it's really insulting to argue over little things like his skin colour. What does it matter?

It matters when He's considered as God.

But wouldn't every culture naturally attribute Jesus to their norms?

In Africa, Jesus is dark skinned.

In the West, he's white.

In the Middle East, he's tan/brown.

For every group of people having a different representation of him over time seems normal to me.

The thing is, he is also our Prophet (PBUH), and I find it rather demeaning to him as a great figure in our history and also rather insulting to bicker over simple things such as his skin color.

I completely agree in this. If someone told me that Mohammed :PBUH: is black or tanned or white it doesnt make a difference to me and my love to him will never dicrease. But the problem is: Jesus PBUH is considered as God more than a human so when you say Jesus is black is like saying God is black which is very wrong. This is what we are discussing basically here PIB not the color of Jesus as a prophet but as a God.

i pray to jesus not to the icon. the icon is there to remind me of events. like a pictorial narration of the bible. each culture draws jesus in the way they can relate to him.
hence, in the renaissance, you'd get them wearing renaissance clothes, in modern times, you get Jesus with a playstation and manga style. in africa you get him with a wooden bowl. in Oman, Jesus wears a turban and dishdasha and drives a red mustang.
cool?

For me icons remind us of the holieness of Jesus and the saints and automatically, at least for me, makes me feel safe and reminds me of what the teachings stood for. I have a painting of Jesus in my house that my grandmother in Puerto Rico gave me. He is depicted as looking Middle Eastern with brown skin and dark hair.

God is black, jesus is drunk, moses on drugs.. really ... some of you really stoop low.

I used to like this section.. but of late it's REALLY losing any spec of decency and respect. And such threads coming from the same few who take criticism of their own faith so badly, it's really ironic.

Also, this is hardly a thread I'd expect from someone who's 'job' it is to keep things running smoothly in Sabla. It is insulting to God and to Jesus - what ever you think he was. I can't get over how that seems to be completely ok to many who will get angry over the same level of ridicule towards Mohammed.

It's a real eye opener.
