Do Jews really believe this? shamsery 05-03-08, 11:59 AM Does the Bible teach that Prophet Lot pbuh has committed adultery with his daughters? Do Jews really believe this? Yes it is there in the Bible. Why don't quote the verse? Kara 05-03-08, 02:35 PM Yep and the moral to this story is to not let your daughters get you drunk after what seems to be the end of the world :p IceTea 05-03-08, 02:48 PM I think you realize that you are talking about God Prophets here not normal people who might commit such sins. Do you think that such made up stories in the Bible encourage people in the west to commit such sins with family members? El Rey 05-03-08, 03:01 PM Yep and the moral to this story is to not let your daughters get you drunk after what seems to be the end of the world :p Which lays a question mark about the drinking credibility in the bible. IceTea 05-03-08, 03:05 PM I think this is what is stated in the Bible: Genesis 19: 30-28 "" Now Lot went up out of Zo'ar, and dwelt in the hills with his two daughters, for he was afraid to dwell in Zo'ar; so he dwelt in a cave with his two daughters. And the first-born said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is not a man on earth to come in to us after the manner of all the earth. Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve offspring through our father." So they made their father drink wine that night; and the first-born went in, and lay with her father; he did not know when she lay down or when she arose. And on the next day, the first-born said to the younger, "Behold, I lay last night with my father; let us make him drink wine tonight also; then you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve offspring through our father." So they made their father drink wine that night also; and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose. Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father. The first-born bore a son, and called his name Moab; he is the father of the Moabites to this day. The younger also bore a son, and called his name Ben-ammi; he is the father of the Ammonites to this. "" IceTea 06-03-08, 09:49 AM And the story continue: Later on in the Bible we learn that the Jews are ordered by the same compassionate God to slaughter the Philistines mercilessly — men, women and children. Even trees and animals are not to be spared, but the Amonites and the Moabites are not to be "distressed" or "meddled" with because they are the seed of Lot! (Deuteronomy 2:19) shamsery 06-03-08, 10:05 AM Dear Sir Ice Tea, Those who have little idea about the Bible , know the story. But what is your main focus? Kara 06-03-08, 11:50 AM I think you realize that you are talking about God Prophets here not normal people who might commit such sins. Do you think that such made up stories in the Bible encourage people in the west to commit such sins with family members? Who says it's made up? Leviticus 18 is the Law. Jeff 09-03-08, 12:07 PM I think you realize that you are talking about God Prophets here not normal people who might commit such sins. Do you think that such made up stories in the Bible encourage people in the west to commit such sins with family members? Well, Christians don't consider Lot a prophet, and I don't know that Jews do either. The notion that prophets don't sin is also strange to us. There are Biblical figures such as Lot and Samson, who are considered prophets by Muslims, but not by Christians or Jews. They are just Biblical figures. There was no "West" when the ancient Hebrew texts were written and the Bible condemns such practices unequivocally. IceTea 09-03-08, 02:55 PM A person who believes in Allah should believe in ALL God prophets. Otherwise it will be selective to believe in some and don't believe in others. Why the notion of prophets don't sin is strange to you, don't you think that prophets are suppose to set a good example for other people? Kara 09-03-08, 04:02 PM Lot isn't a prophet to us and we are not being selective. That is just how it is. As for the prophets misbehaving well they are human after all. Moses had a temper and was barred from entering the promised land. Yet he still had an extraordinary task (bit of an understatement). STING 09-03-08, 08:41 PM Yeah I read some verses, and actually opened a thread on them here, from the bible. The content of those verses were quite x-rated. shamsery 10-03-08, 05:16 PM Lot isn't a prophet to us and we are not being selective. That is just how it is. We are talking Prophet Lot in the Bible. Grossly Bible divided in two part, OT & NT. Here are references on Lot from Genesis. Genesis/ Chapter 19 . 30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters. 31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth: 32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. 33 And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. 34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. 35 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. 36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father. King James Version Study Bible, Red-letter Edition http://www.christiananswers.net/bible/gen19.html Lot Is Debased 30Lot went up from Zoar, and (AB)stayed in the mountains, and his two daughters with him; for he was afraid to stay in Zoar; and he stayed in a cave, he and his two daughters. 31Then the firstborn said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is not a man on earth to (AC)come in to us after the manner of the earth. 32"Come, (AD)let us make our father drink wine, and let us lie with him that we may preserve our family through our father." 33So they made their father drink wine that night, and the firstborn went in and lay with her father; and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose. 34On the following day, the firstborn said to the younger, "Behold, I lay last night with my father; let us make him drink wine tonight also; then you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve our family through our father." 35So they made their father drink wine that night also, and the younger arose and lay with him; and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose. 36Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father. Genesis 19 (New American Standard Bible) The Descendants of Lot 30 Then Lot went up out of Zoar and dwelt in the mountains, and his two daughters were with him; for he was afraid to dwell in Zoar. And he and his two daughters dwelt in a cave. 31 Now the firstborn said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is no man on the earth to come in to us as is the custom of all the earth. 32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve the lineage of our father.” 33 So they made their father drink wine that night. And the firstborn went in and lay with her father, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose. 34 It happened on the next day that the firstborn said to the younger, “Indeed I lay with my father last night; let us make him drink wine tonight also, and you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve the lineage of our father.” 35 Then they made their father drink wine that night also. And the younger arose and lay with him, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose. 36 Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father. Genesis 19 (New King James Version) Lot and His Daughters 30 Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and settled in the mountains, for he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He and his two daughters lived in a cave. 31 One day the older daughter said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is no man around here to lie with us, as is the custom all over the earth. 32 Let's get our father to drink wine and then lie with him and preserve our family line through our father." 33 That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and lay with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up. 34 The next day the older daughter said to the younger, "Last night I lay with my father. Let's get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and lie with him so we can preserve our family line through our father." 35 So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went and lay with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up. 36 So both of Lot's daughters became pregnant by their father. Genesis 19 (New International Version) Well was not a prophet. He is mentioned in OT. So far I know , The Bible is consist of OT +NT=Bible. Is there any wrong? If the Christians are not accepting OT , why they are carrying OT along with their Bible(NT)? shamsery 10-03-08, 05:21 PM Yeah I read some verses, and actually opened a thread on them here, from the bible. They do accept the Hebrew Scriptures but the Christian Scriptures are more important to them. nezitiC 11-03-08, 11:08 AM No offense, but as a reader, I learned from Lot's biblical story that the authors who wrote the Bible had bad nasty imaginations. IceTea 11-03-08, 11:50 AM You are transferring your beliefs unto us. Lot isn't a prophet to us. It is not you who decide who is prophet or not, only God do that. Kara 11-03-08, 12:33 PM It is not you who decide who is prophet or not, only God do that. Did you know that Jews killed many of God prophets? I'm sorry but the actions of Lot in the bible tells us he is not a prophet. We have our prophets. We even have Laws regarding how to work out who and who isn't a prophet as prescribed in the Torah. IceTea 11-03-08, 12:38 PM Prophet Lot pbuh is innocent from such actions, it is an example of the corruption of the Bible. Or perhaps the Quran in wrong. shamsery 11-03-08, 03:08 PM Originally Posted by shamsery View Post Grossly Bible divided in two part, OT & NT. Well was not a prophet. He is mentioned in OT. Well, are you giving message that Old Testament of the Bible is not Holy Scripture to you? (Christian, I think you are Christian by faith. ) Or you have different explanation about Lot? shamsery 11-03-08, 03:15 PM Or perhaps the Quran in wrong. You enjoy unique advantage about Holy Qur’an. Why don’t you exercise your intellect to accept the challenge? 4:82 Do they not consider the Qurán (with care)? Had it been from other than Allah, they would surely have found therein much discrepancy. Allah Almighty Said: "Do they not ponder on the Qur'an? Had it been from other than Allah, they would surely have found therein much discrepancy. (The Noble Quran, 4:82)" Proof of Divine Authorship [4:82] Why do they not study the Qur’an carefully? If it were from other than GOD, they would have found in it numerous contradictions. Kara 11-03-08, 03:57 PM Well, are you giving message that Old Testament of the Bible is not Holy Scripture to you? (Christian, I think you are Christian by faith. ) Or you have different explanation about Lot? To me its the Tanakh, what people refer to the Old Testament is the only Holy Scripture. I'm not a Christian, nor am I Jewish. Lot was a decent person, in a bad situation who also chose a bad place to live. In a nutshell, the reason why he isn't considered a prophet is because he didn't prophesy anything that came to pass. :82 Do they not consider the Qurán (with care)? Had it been from other than Allah, they would surely have found therein much discrepancy. It is somewhat discrepant against my Scripture. shamsery 12-03-08, 11:57 AM Lot was a decent person, in a bad situation who also chose a bad place to live. .
