View Full Version : Letters in Car models Rossonero 05-03-08, 03:26 AM Have you ever wondered .. whenever a performance car or a sporty car is launched.. It has to have one or two of these: T, R and S? GT .. RS..etc.? Why these letters especially? mimosa 05-03-08, 06:22 AM Might vary from model to model but: R = Racing S = Sport T = Turbo, or Touring GT = Grand Tourer (i.e. comfortable luxury car with sports performance) Rossonero 05-03-08, 06:41 AM Mustang GT :D Pen_it_Black 05-03-08, 07:20 AM GMC --> Genetically modified car b7r 05-03-08, 11:31 AM They all stand for something and they have a reason for that specific letter...i dont understand most of the letters either:p NiGhTFaCe 05-03-08, 04:55 PM GMC --> Genetically modified car Rossonero is talking about these letters that might come with the car name to define something about the model. By the way, GMC stands for General Motors Corporation. AMARANT 05-03-08, 06:03 PM 911 GT-3 RS :) sometimes they have a meaning and sometimes just to differentiate between them and the standard models... Rosso you forgot the "///M" :bored: marianna 05-03-08, 06:24 PM My dad had a 1967 Mustang Covertible GT. It was NICE! mimosa 05-03-08, 06:57 PM Yes, the "M" on BMW's sportier versions stands for "Motorsport", just like others use "R" for "Racing", "S" for "Sport" or even as Ama said, "RS" for "Racing Special". Chevrolet use "SS" ("Super Sport") as another example. Nightface is right that these letters usually just denote a special equipment package or engine variation from the normal model. Sometimes it's as little as a special colour and change in body trim, and perhaps a slightly different fuel mapping in the electronic injection system to give less efficient but more responsive performance...but other times it's a whole different engine, trim, brakes and suspension set up, like the BMW's "M" series, made with the racetrack in mind. netlover 05-03-08, 08:14 PM Nissan GT-R = Gran Turismo Racer. VW Golf MK-V = Golf Mark-V(5) (applies for many other brands as well). Audi TT = Tourist Trophy Lexus: LS = Luxury Sedan ES = Executive Sedan IS = Intelligent Sports IS-F = Fuji GS = Grand Sedan SC = Sport Coupe RX = Recreational Crossover Rossonero 05-03-08, 09:42 PM You forgot the LX ..
