What causes it? Sometimes it happens to your legs or hands even when you are standing or working on something which is annoying! :alien:

I think its from squeezing an area, which makes it hard for the blood to go through.

The squeezing can be from a twisted body part, like when you get pins and needles from having your leg crossed for too long.

Or it can come from weight on a body part, like when you sleep on your arm and you wake up and its completely numb. Maybe that ones just me :XD:

God knows why my left hand is the one suffering =l

I get that feeling in my feet when I sit on the floor for a long time. It's horrible! I think it is caused by poor blood circulation. I know of a man who once had pins and needles all over one side of his face and body, and later that night, he had a heart attack.

I've got it on my right index finger! Well its not pins and needles but numbness... everytime I get cold it goes numb and feels like its being pinched.

No, am pretty sure because it starts from top of my arm and it feels like rocks falling all the way down to my fingers. It always ends at these two, index and thumb =l

It's not the blood flow, it's the pressure on the nerves. Because the fluid around the nerve is interrupted, the eletrical signals don't work properly, so you feel numbness and tingling instead of the normal sensation being relayed to the brain.

I've had a problem recently in my left hand, particularly my little finger and ring finger, where it's been numb and tingling all the time. I looked it up and there's all sorts of scary stuff like multiple sclerosis indicated! But...the more common explanation is something called "carpal tunnel" syndrome, where the nerve is compressed for long periods of time and doesn't recover quickly. I worked out that it's the way I sit at my PC, with my left elbow on the edge of the table. I've tried taking a break from using it so much, and making sure my left arm is not lying in the same way. Also I try to keep that arm straight for more of the time and not rest it on hard surfaces. After a few days my fingers are back to normal service!

So if you start getting something like this for long periods of time, then take this advice and give your hand or arm some rest in the same way: If you don't, something small like that can become a long-term problem.

Don't be alarmed Charmy, it's normal to get pins and needles; sometimes if you sit in a certain way or wake up and you were sleeping on your arm...3adi. What I'm talking about is when you do something for hours every day and it can become a long term effect.

I've had it without any reason every day almost all the time since last May. When I looked it up online and found out it that it could be a symptom of multiple sclerosis it scared the hell out of me, especially because the month before it I had some eye pain and a urinary infection which are common symptoms of MS. I went to a neurologist and had brain and cervical spine MRIs done which al7amd lilah ruled out the MS. The numbing got worse and I ended up traveling to Thailand to see a specialist who diagnosed me with having an auto immune disorder and put me on a medicine which every doctor who has heard of told me I'm crazy to take. I came back and did lots of lots tests like nerve conduction study in which they stick sensors on your arms and legs and then send electrical signals down your nerve to measure the response time. I've now seen a third neurologist in Germany and once again no cause has been found. I guess it's something I'm going to have to live with it. And I'm going to have to keep repeating some of the test to see if there's any loss in nerve conduction. It sucks.
