The government has taken the right step I must say. Thanks for sharing... May the project be completed and inaugurated successfully soon Insha' Allah. :)

But most important is how'd they increase the psycho-social and physiological awareness in other health care providers. The Omani society is still not matured enough to understand the other side of medicine, ppl here are only familiar with physical side of it.

sorry i don't want to be finnicky..but autism is not a disease. i teach autistic children myself and they have communication problems not a disease.
mental hospitals are not places for autistic children. i hope this will be the view of whoever manages this new hospital.

but autism is not a disease.

It's a disorder

Mental conditions are called disorders, not diseases

What happened to Ibn Sina?

It's fully functioning at the moment, might be turned into a general polyclinic once the new one is ready

By the way, the new one's construction will start by next month & it shall be done by the end of 2010

I am loving this, I think psychological patients need more attention here because unfourtountly the culture doesnt give them that attention.

I think other disorders such as Autisim and Down Syndrom are already dealt with in other insitutes here in Oman if I am not mistaken (Education)

Its crucial the government changes the negative image affiliated with psychiatric hospitals and clinics in Oman. Its time they hire some good marketing agencies and let the people in Oman know having mental disorders is nothing to be ashamed of.

Would it have a rehab center within it? They're MANY drug users in Oman and I guess the most effective way to eradicate it is through rehab and psychiatric institutions which offer support groups and weekly meetings instead of throwing them in prisons without some sort of program to get them back on track.

Either way, this is great news for Oman!

This is great news - they tend to close them down in Sydney, not build them.
