Besides istikhara, someone once told me that if you were in a dilemma and needed some guidance you can read some sort of dua on the quran then open it and the answer is on the page you turned to... anyone has any idea about this?

I don't think that's true. It doesn't make sense to me.

I never heard of it, and i doubt it.
but what i can advice you to do is Istighfar (Arabic: إستغفار)
Allah said: "Indeed those who are wary of Allah (taqwa), when a passing insinuation (taif) from Shaytan touches them, they bring to remembrance (tadhakkaru), and behold, they see clearly" (Q7:201).
And i would like to do some good to you and others i will post an Istighfar Du3a
Oh Allah!, You are my Lord, there is No deity
but You. You Created me and I am Your
servant and I am trying my best to keep
my Oath (of faith) to You and to seek
to live in the hope of Your Promise.
I seek Refuge in You from my greatest evil
deeds. I acknowledge Your Blessings upon
me and my sins. So forgive me, for none
but You can forgive sins
[al-Bukhari]

There was not an arranged form of the Qura'n at the prophet PBUH's time.
It would be kind of preposterous to assume the prophet PBUH might have done any of this.
When you have a dilemma, God will save you if you have enough faith in Him. Haste ain't a factor in istikhara as far as my knowledge extends...
