Here's a picture I thought was interesting and I'd like to share it with you all.

That is a Muslim imam and a Roman Catholic archbishop .. praying side by side.

Share your thoughts.. or rather the first thing that came to your mind when you saw this picture.

Your thoughts will probably be exactly like mine if I were to see an imam praying in a church beside an archbichop. (has that ever happened?)

I cannot see it here at work but the thought of these two praying together is totally awesome. :D

Now can a non-muslim pray to God in a mosque or not? Not sure so am asking.

that's in malta, the maltese archbishop went to our mosque to pray with imam el sadi.
i wonder if the imam would reciprocate the action back...that was my first reaction to the picture.

Since Thalia is the poster the first thing came to my mind…it was something sarcastic!

It might be Photoshop-manipulated…I don’t know.

Muslims collectively agree that praying in a Church is permissible but many have restrictions over praying in other places like bars some even banks.

When Omar entered Jerusalem the Patriarch Safronius showed him Jerusalem and its holy places…Omar was in the Patriarch’s church in the Afternoon prayer time…the patriarch prepared the place for Omar to pray in the church but Omar said “I would like to but if I prayed here, Muslims would come after me claiming your church since Omar prayed in it” so he prayed at the door of the church.

Praying at a bar? A church and a bar are two completely different places.

a matter of dispute...

I dont see why he cannot if we claim it is God's house and if we belive that this man belive in the God we are beliving in. My opinion is outregeous to many!

I am not comparing...I am talking about places percieved as counter-Islamic in concept!

Fine but at the same time for me as a Christian a bar and a church are just two different buildings with two completely different purposes and feel that they are not in the same league.

So the bishop was praying at a mosque. Interesting.

yes it's not unheard of in malta for leaders of different faiths to pray together.

It is cool that two different faiths can come together under one roof.

:) I think the same about these two...
But I was, in other words, talking about disbeleiving in Islam and drinking, and their corresponding places... I wasnt compare these two by themselves...

This picture is genuine, I saw the newspaper article from a good source ;)

There are different schools of thought on allowing non-Muslims to enter a mosque...and as for praying in one...I guess I've never thought about it. Personally, I find the idea appealing in a way.

As for a Muslim going to pray in a church, I don't see why not. Although the direction of prayer might make this awkward, but this is a detail. As a gesture, I think it's an important and inspiring one.

This reminds me of when the Sunni Imams and Shiite Imams prayed side by side. Of course they are both from the same faith, but they prayed together and let their photos to be taken to show the people of each sect that ... We're not enemies, even though we might disagree on some things, we're still all servants of God.

So this might have been done to prove the same point. To make the followers of each religion more tolerant with each other.

Let me inform you that once few Jews came to our Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) and wished to stay some time as his guest.

When the prayer time came , they asked for a place to offer their payer.
Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) allow them to offer their prayer in the mosque.

I like to stop here , cause next is irrelevant to principal concept.

Since Thalia is the poster the first thing came to my mind…it was something sarcastic!
No it is not sarcastic. Few years back the previous pope , for expressing solidarity and to uphold the sprit of peaceful co-existence, love and affection for each other offer his prayer in Mosque in Turkey. ( Hope I am not wrong about the location)

This reminds me of the time in collage, when I wanted to go pray after lunch, I had a christian friend with me .. she asked me: can I enter too to pray? I said yah sure ..

later on, I went discussing it with my other muslim friends and we disagreed if it was allowed or not.

For me, whatever religion you are, if you are doing a good thing by praying and there is no mosque or church for you to go to of our own faith where is the harm?

How is it that whenever we see outreach, it is the Christians reaching out to the Muslims ?

Why is it that we never see Muslim Imams reaching out and making a symbolic gesture of praying in a Christian Church ?

Very nice gesture, missing a rabbi though to make it perfect. Like Marianna's avatar. :)
