I can't accept it. Atleast after being a Muslim, none can do that. After being Muslim you are not in savage anymore!
What others in the ill society doing , am i not free to decide my won choice?
Talk about putting your foot in it.
Scorpio, you gave us the wrong link to the anti-islamic site.
:hyper:
lol, the link isn't working.
i'm not sure i understand what you're talking about Scorpio.
anyway, from what i got from the title, it's not only Arabs, many other nations do the same. it's not about being Arab nor Muslim, it's about being ignorant. :)

Still.. I'm .. confused? What are you saying, exactly, Scorpio?
thanx Thalia.
i think this would fit better in religion Sabla as the topic is mainly talking about the prophet's :PBUH: marriage to Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her.)
but i'll keep it here for awhile, so that Scorpio can tell us what is it he's trying to discuss here exactly. :)

I think he's saying that in arab culture, once a girl has her first period she is considered marriagable. Especially since the prophet consummated his marriage with Aisha at age 9 (when she had started hers) added to the fact that so many muslims follow his ways.. (sunna)
That's what I gathered from the link..
but this custom doesn't only exist in the Arab culture. and it's certainly not sunna, that was an exception. since there was a reason for him to marry Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her.) even though every human deserves the right to choose their spouse and when you're 9 years old, you're not old enough to comprehend all of this. but just like how Mohammad (pbuh) was chosen to be a prophet, she was chosen to be his wife. it was a divine revelation (wahi).
Ok.. so are you saying that arabic culture DOES have this.. ?
and what other customs/cultures practice this?
And do you agree that there should be laws in place that prohobit this? Or, are there?

Exactly, Thank you for explaining my saying.
Actually Arabs not the issue, such marriage i cant any way support.
such minors we treat like maa or baba as we address them , care them, how can we consume!
yes arab culture does have this. my grandma's sister was married before she had her first menstrual cycle even..and i'm sure it was not a divine revelation.
it's clearly wrong and there should be laws that prohibit this. since kids can't really make life changing decisions like getting married. and no one is allowed to make such decisions for you, no matter who they are.
regarding the other cultures/nations. well, i remember watching a documentary sometime ago about forced children marriages, and if i'm not mistaken, about 40 countries or something have this problem, there have been some cases reported in the UK and the US even.
undercover 24-02-08, 06:11 PM I'm sure Clouds will agree... But I can't really go for the apology Aisha was chosen by Allah to be put into an arranged marriage at 6, then effectively forced to have sex at age 9.
Maybe it was important politically at the time. And it certainly seems she was well treated. But ordained by the all powerful supernatural creator? Yeah, right. But have sex at 23 before marriage in a loving adult relationship and you're Satan's marshmallow, right?
minerva 24-02-08, 06:21 PM poor girl...poor girls who are having sex with older men, losing their childhood and their virginity so young. i have two daughters aged 9 and 11. wouldn't want anything of the sort, not even anybody touching them let alone deflower them. :(
The great islamic preacher Dr. Bilal Philips has been caught on tape clearly preaching that since the Prophet did it, he legalized it for muslims for all time.

i'm sure that there are many muslims who dissociate themselves with such vile comments. vile in my opinion, i hope nobody here will justify sexual intercourse with a nine year old.
marianna 24-02-08, 07:07 PM I simply cannot see how a man can have marital relations with a child. Especially if she becomes pregnant her body is not fully developed to the point (or her mind) to understand such things.

well said
I would never agree to give my daughter to any one in her tender age to any holy person even it was any super human being. If i was forced i would just kill her and kill myself and if had a scope to kill a super being, i would.:os
marianna 24-02-08, 07:15 PM Children need their childhood to develop into emotionally sound human beings. To take that from them is raping their mind and body.

thats a shame! we can't be blind.

and why would a grown man fancy a child...find a child attractive so much that they want to have her naked next to them?
marianna 24-02-08, 07:19 PM Simple perversion. I am not sure why back in the time of Mohammad young girls were taken for marriage. I know this custom was common in a lot of countries. Maybe it was to ensure her "purity" but for a man to lie with a child inside they have to know it is wrong and if not they are simply pedofiles.
Scorpio27 24-02-08, 07:26 PM common people can follow such tradition, but how come a superhuman do?
UmKhalid 24-02-08, 08:16 PM Times change, people change. My grandmother was married at the age of 12, I asked my friends, most of their grandmothers have too. This was two generations ago, so imagine back in the time of the Prophet :PBUH:.
I am against this because it isn't an Islamic 'Sunnah'. The Prophet :PBUH: married a widow, does it make it a 'Sunnah' to marry a widow?
As for now, it is UNacceptable. Our hearts have changed, even our daughters have changed. Now in some countries a girl is seen as a child until she is 17!
Anyway, now, in the 'Arabic culture', the youngest age for a girl to marry is 15-16. I've met some, and they have no problem with it because they wanted to get married.
I'm sure in the future this will change to.
FAITH86 24-02-08, 08:50 PM That was an old tradition in Arab Countries or the ME. As Um Khalid said earlier, things have been changed since then and people's mentalities changed too.
My grandma' married when she was a child. That was the tradition here long time ago, thery were waiting for the girls till they start having the period to marry them.
marianna 24-02-08, 10:01 PM It is good that this custom is changing. Girls need to just enjoy being girls and with life expetancy for women having increased girls have plenty of time to find the man of their dreams.
