View Full Version : Why girls are sad ?
EvilFire 16-02-08, 12:49 AM Hmm,,
One of my italian work-mates whom came to Oman with his wife and children a year ago " Why omani girls never smile and always look pissed".So I went driving around Muscat area and trying to notice girls faces, and I always noticed like they just got slapped or so !
At the same time I tried to noticed the foreigner girl’s faces. The Italian Dude was right ! you rarely find a girl smiling !
So whats the problem ?
marianna 16-02-08, 12:52 AM I noticed this also when I visited Oman. My Omani ex told me that when a girl is out to be seen laughing or smiling could be taken the wrong way by a strange man.
EvilFire 16-02-08, 12:57 AM Why men not abusing the foreigner females and would abuse the Omani ones!
ok fine, what about the females whom driving their cars in a high way and they are with their family " just to get rid of the chance that a male member would abue her" I still noticed that they just got a slap " !
I never saw a guy whom hitting on a girl because she is walking and smiling, I understand if the girl was giving eye contact to that guy and giggling and smiling, but !!!!
weird!
marianna 16-02-08, 12:58 AM Well, that is what I was told and when I was there if I laughed too loud or smiled too long I was told to "quit drawing attention to myself." Am sure those who live there can relate some stories of their own but am giving my experience and what my ex told me who was born and lived there for most of his life. maybe when the girls are with family they are told to act like proper ladies. Who knows? Sure Omani ladies here will express their opinions also. :D
minerva 16-02-08, 01:01 AM maybe they are not really sad, they just don't want to look too friendly. i'm sure the omani girls in here have good laughs when together. can't imagine them meeting up and being all stern and sullen.
when i was younger, i used to walk in the street with my head bowed down and avoided eye contact....didn't want any creep to think i was smiling at him. maybe it's the same thing. now that i'm older and a mum to two kids, i can handle myself better and i walk with my head up high and say good morning, smile or nod (it's customary in malta) to everybody on my way to work.
Superbia 16-02-08, 01:05 AM Not all, I smile literally all-the-time .. Regardless if I'm sad, angry, happy or even pissed off!
EvilFire 16-02-08, 01:08 AM Why dont look friendly!
I dont think that a guy would ever abuse a girl sitting in a coffe shop reading a new paper! doesnt make sense.
I would really understand if she dont smile or giggle when she look at a guy so she avoid giving him a hint that she is interasted to know him or so.
At my work , I noticed there are few girls whom smile and say good morning when they come to work and they are very respectful and didnt notice any one abusing them, but not majority.
while majority of foreigner females are always smiling and I never saw or hear any male member abusing them.
EvilFire 16-02-08, 01:08 AM Not all, I mile all the time .. Regardless if I'm sad, angry, happt or even pissed off!
i'm not saying all , I said majority.... try to go out tommorow and look around :)
marianna 16-02-08, 01:09 AM Here at work we are always smiling and laughing. I could not imagine being in a work environment with so much tension that everyone is always frowning. I understand professionalism but then there is also tension. Two different emotions. What kind of work is it that you are in? Maybe the atmosphere has to retain a certain sense of professionalism??
marianna 16-02-08, 01:10 AM I know when I was in Oman I just saw more serious faces than jovial with the women while the men were smiling (most that I saw). Interesting observation Evilfire.

maybe out of a hundred guys, one of them is a creep. gosh you just reminded me of a story...i was walking home (was about 18) and was laughing because i remembered something funny. a guy was sweeping the road, a total creep, he thought i was smiling at him. he ran after me with his bloody broom and saying obscene stuff...like i wanna do this to you and that. went straight home and phoned the police station. never was so scared in my life lol.

Have you lived in Oman before ? :)
Endure Whisper 16-02-08, 08:30 AM Your Italian friend is right. Most girls in Oman never smile. They would always walk around with a straight face, showing no expression whatsoever.. I come to college everyday, and the girls over here don't show any expression unless they're talking to someone they know. I don't know why is that!!
Elvenblade 16-02-08, 09:03 AM Maybe cuz they are in Oman :XD:
ugh i get looks from my dad whenever i'm out with him. he keeps lecturing me about looking like i'm about to kill somebody with eyes like burning coal all the time! so that men get scared of me and don't get my smiles the wrong way.. :mmhmm:
i still smile though, lol. i can't help it. whenever i walk with my sisters, there is always something funny to say. xD
and i'm a smiler by nature, see? :D
UmKhalid 16-02-08, 09:37 AM When walking in streets, we have to look like that. If we accidently look at a guy while smiling he will think we like him. So better put a expression-less face on, so if we accidently look at a guy he'd go "Whoah, stay away."
:)
Jihad4Truth 16-02-08, 10:56 AM It must be really weird to be a woman.
It must be really weird to be a woman.
If you're around men who think a mere smile is a come-on, then it's gonna be, right?
Here, I smile and talk to anyone and everyone.
In Libya, I don't look ANYONE in the eye outside, and don't laugh cause it will turn heads.. just look at the floor and scurry along with my babysitter brother-in-law in tow. sheesh.. it's an automatic response to being on a road where 95% of the people there are men - who are likely to be horny.
Libellula 16-02-08, 04:11 PM I smile and laugh out in public if I'm with friends and we're in a group. If I'm walking somewhere alone, I won't put on a cheerful face, because usually yes that ends up with you getting unwanted attention from the opposite sex, especially in certain places.
Mini Me 16-02-08, 07:07 PM ya lool

NuniBoo 16-02-08, 07:12 PM Not all, I smile literally all-the-time .. Regardless if I'm sad, angry, happy or even pissed off!
^^ haha sooo true! :hyper:
Maybe that person just caught them at the wrong time? :p
maybe because they are preoccupied because of the Palestenian reflect ?
God bless our Omani girls :p
Solidus 16-02-08, 09:40 PM You can see DEATH in their eyes! I swear! I used to study at a local college, and 90% of the faces I see there are just too bloody miserable..! I tried talking to some to see if they'd smile, well they did, and I couldn't sleep for 3 days..
I can't be walking on the street or in the mall by myself, and smile. I would look like a goof. But I will smile if I was with someone unless I was having a serious discussion and I will smile if I see someone I know on the street.
In Australia, I do smile to myself when I remember something sweet or cute since no body really cares what you do, but in Oman it is another story. Though sometimes when I am driving in Oman, I do that too. But not in the mall or in public, since they will think something else...and that's the last thing I need in Oh-man.
UmKhalid 16-02-08, 10:09 PM ^ I mean the bare necessities, old mother nature's recipes, that bring the bare necessities of life. Yeah, man.
Couldn't help it.

That made lose 5 Kilos in 4 minutes.
"wipes away his laughter tears"

o'sweetie,,,u're an exception!!! ;)
WoLF DoLL 17-02-08, 01:32 AM I smile and laugh out in public if I'm with friends and we're in a group. If I'm walking somewhere alone, I won't put on a cheerful face, because usually yes that ends up with you getting unwanted attention from the opposite sex, especially in certain places.
You took the words out of my mouth.
nezitiC 17-02-08, 02:12 AM They look like that because they don't know how to cook, they always burn the kitchen.
I heard muslim grlz are not allowed to show their teeth in public or i should say they're not allowed showing their smile to other strangers (guys i mean)...but i dont really know if thats tho...anyway i think thats just the way they were raised some of 'em if u get to meet them personally they're really sweet and caring and also funny:D
EvilFire 17-02-08, 02:30 PM See, for me a girl having "Death" face as one of the guys called it would be for two reasons:
A- She had a very bad day/some one died/bothered.
"Is that true! I can’t imagine the majority have these problems"
B-They were born with a sad "Death" face...I mean their smile doesn’t get reflected.
We are not in Libya thanks god and the % of horny men out there is not more than UK/Canada/France.... etc
NOTE: I'm talking about cheerful/smiley faces, am not talking about Girls giggling and giving eye contacts to guys.
I never heard about any case in Oman where a girl got sexual harassment because she was smiling!
Its really difficult to go out side and see all these sad faces, as they say in Arabic " yesed el nafss" which means " You making life Measurable"
Maybe I need to get an ice-cream car and go to the main street and write “Girls smile and you get a free ice-cream"

may tulip 17-02-08, 03:38 PM smile is my best friend haha :p
when comes to these girls i have no idea but for me i always smile with my friends or family but of course not when i'm alone
toxic_honey 17-02-08, 04:54 PM oh plz thats so untrue ... i hardly see any girl not smiling! if i looked at her and smiled back!
I have traveld in lot of places and when ppl ask me where am from and I say Oman they go like OH OMANI people have that smiley faces or we knew you are from somewhere near there!
but when am alone I dont really do coz its ONE of those two:
1- am uncomfortable alone
2- I dont really give eye contact with others unless i know they wont do or think anything bad..
I smile yeah ..the prophet Mohammed

True, but in our society it's am indication of somekind of flirt.
I agree with the statement that they just too dead, not a smile or a single hope in their eyes as if everything is already planned out for them and they have no control over anything that's surrounding them. I won't be surprised either if they actually do smile then their male relatives will beat the living daylights out of them. It's a sad situation really. I love seeing people have a good time and enjoy life a bit, why so strict all the time? why so dull?
I don't really blame the girls, I blame their parents for not instilling some sense of joy in their lives.
Angel_Eyes 17-02-08, 06:49 PM ^not exactly BOTH parents ....just one ..
True, but in our society it's am indication of somekind of flirt.
Smile to women like you.
If you said that to people here I guess you will get something like this answer;
"You want them to walk around like idiots smiling at everyone and everything?"
Well to be frank with you its kinda true and I add to that I don't see Omani men smiling too, lol
I guess it makes all people sad and depressed in this country, the majority.
Angel_Eyes 17-02-08, 07:31 PM ^LOL what the? hmm..i think the muscati's are doing better but as for the poeple in ba6na and sharqiah and dakhlia, ROBOTS! :p
Leave people of al sharqiya aside cos they rock and roll ;) They smile and it comes from their hearts :hyper:
