Congrats to them. Was Dr. Ali Al Bemani in SQU before being the president?!
Yeah, Dr. Ali Al-Bemani is in SQU since a very long time.

At first, he was a member of faculty in the department of Petroleum Engineering. And then, he became the Head of the Department of Petroleum Engineering for two years I guess. Then a couple of years back he was appointed as the Assistant Vice President of the University for Post-Graduate studies. Then last year he was appointed as the Vice President of the University for post-graduate studies and now he's the president.

Dr. Ali Al-Bemani has a Ph.D in Petroleum Engineering and he has a very long experience in the academic research & post-graduate studies field. He's even a member of the Scientific Research Council.

No idea :)

Who will be taking Dr. Ali Al Bemani's place as the Vice President?
No one till now, yet there are many other vices as far as I know.

Dr. Ali Al Bemani was the Vice President for Academic Affairs and for Postgraduate Studies and Research, but some time back, Professor Amer Al Rawas was appointed as VP for Postgraduate Studies and Research, while Dr. Ali Al Bemani being the VP for only Academic Affairs.

Now there is no VP for Academic Affairs as Dr. Ali Al Bemani is the President.

Interesting…
I am glad that the new president is of a natural science background unlike his predecessor who was of a humanities background…

I heard that SQU is suffering from loss of qualified experts in the natural science colleges due to the tempting offers they get from industry. Having him presiding over the university may have effectual changes to counter this phenomenon.

and Dr. Saud Al-Ryami as an advisor/consultant in Sultan Qaboos University Council

he was the ex-president of SQU and now he's just a consultant. Does that make sense to you because his position seems to be lowered ?.

Being in a high position doesn't mean that your next position has to be a higher one, it can be a lower one.

Some Deans of colleges go back to members of faculty when their deanship is over. Some Heads of departments also go back to members of faculty when their term is ended. Some ministers are appointed as members of the State Council when they're resigned or Advisors to the State or Advisors to His Majesty...

Plus, I guess now Dr. Saud Al-Riyami is an Academic Advisor at the Higher Education Council , not the university's council. Appointing him as an Advisor only means that his experience is needed and the country doesn't want his experience to be wasted. Hence, he was appointed as an Academic Advisor, regardless if his previous position was higher or lower. Furthermore, if you check the royal decree you'll notice that Dr. Saud Al-Riyami didn't lose his financial grade. Meaning that he's still holding the rank of a ministry's under-secretary and he didn't lose it. So yeah... it does make sense.

Al Bemani maybe with alot of certificates and made it up to many high positions but what are his Achievements? im more interested in that!!

good work is different than good relations but both and mostly the later can lead you up high!

I knew both and Saud al Riyami was an extraordinary man! Very intelligent. He has got and achieved alot to the university during the past years.. many improvements..most of all he loved the students like his own and loved the university!

lets wish Al Beimani give more too :)

Sweety, let's wait and see (though I'm gonna graduate soon :( ). Being in high positions previously and having many certificates mean a lot in any academic position. Dr. Ali was in touch with the students in during his professional life and this would help a lot, let's say he would usnderstand students needs more than anyone else. Wish him all the best for better SQU..

"Dr. Ali was in touch with the students in during his professional life " .... Where did you get this from? Did he teach you?

$w€€ŧ¥, Dr. Ali Al-Bemani has been a member of faculty in the department of Petroleum Engineering since 1986 - to date. Over 20 years of experience in the academic field & holding some positions in the last years along with that, of course he has interacted with the students A LOT during those long years and he knows the university bit by bit. He has been a part of this university since it was first opened in 1986.

Even when he was the Vice President of SQU for Academic Affairs, he used to teach some Petroleum Engineering classes. I'm not sure though now after being the president will he still be a faculty member or not?

Exactly, and he supervised graduated students' final year projects for many years.
