Got this idea from the husband name thread by the girls,

I wonder if we can officially change our name in Oman like US, and how is it done? The procedures?

-And would you do it?

I guess you can but the process takes a very long time, besides that, reasonable and convincing reasons are required.

I wouldn't change my name because I'm happy with it. I thank my parents for naming me with this beautiful name :)

Also, when you're done with all the procedures, they have to print your picture and new name in the newspaper so that everyone knows the new you :P

^I really don't know what the protocol is on an 'extreme' situation like that but as as far as I know, when you change your name, you get published in the newspapers. Look at the bright side though, you'll be eternalized in our media :super:

you are afraid of someone :p

i think if you don't have a good reason to change your name then you can't
and as mentioned above, it takes along time to do it and many steps starting from the internal affairs ministry and ROP and ministry of health, i mean maybe you'll get the approval when you already forgot that you wanted to change your name :D

Yes you can, I know four people who dis at at the age of 35, 28, 26 and 21. I think you need to present a valid reason like... my name is funny...has bad implications…causes confusion.

The reason for the four people I know:

1-The name was demeaning to the named person
2- It was an old Omani name and funny
3- His name was Al-7ajaj
4- His name sounds very Egyptian while he is very Omani so he wanted to avoid confusion -:)

I think the procedure is much easier than before, I think before no one could change his name after the age of 18.

LOL..the question you should ask yourself Riv is WHY WOULD YOU EVEN WANT TO?
you dont like your name??? :p
And in the US it's different..people aren't named after their fathers..whereas here in oman they are!! so i doubt you can change it even if you wanted to..too bad..you are stuck with the name Riv for the rest of your life:rolleyes:

It's sad to know we have no right in keeping our names after death, ungrateful children, I RAISED YOU! I FED YOU! AND YOU GO AND CHANGE MY NAME AFTER I DIE!

Why does the government allow this.
