That is cool. I had an aunt from Puerto Rico who never saw snow. She came up to visit when she was around 16 and went outside without a coat on just amazed. We had 7 inches here but all that washed away yesterday with the weird severe thunderstorms we had.

For some reason I cannot access certain file types here at work so will ck this out again when I am home.

I'm so sick of the cold and snow..it snowed like crazy last week over here for 3 days and I got stuck at home doing nothing except surf the net...not to mention almost freezing to death. It's still very cold here but thank god the skies are clear. Snow is overrated..and it's really a hassle when you want to go out..you slip, shoes get wet and your feet freeze..ugh, not the best feeling in the world I assure you.

Does look beautiful though when no one has played on it. Also love seeing ice on trees (yes dangerous) but still beautiful natural works of art.

I actually told a friend if it snows in Oman, it won't surprise me. The old gentleman is the video says he is 50 years old, he never saw or heard (from his ancestors) of such weather and snow.

We feel excited about this weather, and feel good about finally seeing a winter in Oman, but lets hope it doesn't get any worst and long term, we all will rush to buy heaters in place of coolers than!

Global warming is real, and now we can feel it in more and more places, not only the Arctic. Tornadoes in the US is another example, they are surprised to see such powerful ones at this time of the year!

As for feeling cold, I LOVE THE WEATHER :p! I agree, it is cold, but I don't really feel its that cold! I still wear similar clothes as I did in Summer, just keeping my hands in the pockets.

Muscat: The Meteorological Department in Muscat on Wednesday confirmed that snow fell on the mountain ranges in Oman's northeastern and northwestern regions two days ago.

"Very little snow fell but temperatures dropped to -4 degree Celsius in Jebel Shams," Abdullah of Meteorological Office told Gulf News on Wednesday.

Abdullah also forecast that the cold spell would continue in Oman for three more days.

"It is not usual [to have] cold weather but it can get worse," he opined. Abdullah, who gave only his first name, said that cold wind from Iran had made the mercury dip in the country.

The minimum temperature in Muscat has gone down to 10 degree Celsius but the weatherman ruled out that it could drop to sub-10 level in the capital area.

According to a report in the Oman Arabic daily, snow also fell in Hamra Wilayat near Jebel Akdhar (Green Mountain), as temperatures dropped below zero in this picturesque tourist spot.

The daily claimed that it snowed heavily in the mountain villages of Jebel Shams, Al Jabal Al Sharqi, Riyadh Al Jabal Farm, Al Ghaleel, Al Al'eina and all areas of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar.

Some parts of the Dhakhiliyah region also received light rains as cold winds forced residents indoors.

A large area of Yasab village, located on the Wadi Asshatin mountains in the Wilayat of Rustaq, was also enveloped in snow.

Popular locations

Jebel Shams, which in Arabic means 'Mountain of Sun", is located in northeastern Oman.It is the highest mountain of the country and part of Al Hajar Mountains range. It is a popular sightseeing area located 240 km from Muscat. In the summer, the temperature is around 20 degrees C and in the winter it drops just above 0 degreesC.

The Jebel Akhdar which is part of the Al Hajar Mountains range in Oman, extends about 300 km northwest to southeast, between 50-100 km inland from the Gulf of Oman coast. It is one of Oman's most spectacular tourist area.
