Police in India have broken up what they call a global organ-trafficking scheme and are hunting its alleged mastermind, a doctor identified as Amit Kumar.
Authorities Tuesday asked for the public's help in tracking down Kumar after a raid last week on a home in Gurgaon, a city near New Delhi.

Police characterized the scheme as an attempt to harvest kidneys from the poor and sell the organs to wealthy patients.

Shakil, a 28-year-old recovering from a transplant in a Gurgaon hospital, winced as he described how his kidney was forcibly removed.

"Two armed guards took me to another room. They took blood samples ... forced me onto a stretcher and then they gave me an injection," he said. "When I woke up, I had pain in my waist and I was dizzy."

What do our omani health regulations say if such incident happens?

That's sad. Some sell their kidneys because they are in desperate need of money and those poor ill people get theirs snatched.. How can such people be doctors, is no longer that hard to understand really..

What happened to "Do no harm" ? This is bad. I read about a girl who had her eyes stolen by a doctor!

What's worse is that in many cases, the organs are removed by nonprofessionals in unhygienic environments. They are not always forced into it. Sometimes, the poor sell their organs and go through many hardships in order to feed their family with the little they get, but end up with fatal infections and many complications that may lead to death.

Faith, I have been told by some Indians that this is so common there that when they wake up seeing a stitch around their kidney, they know that their kidney was stolen!

Someone from the family was telling me that he knew a coworker who was having kidney failure, his family sent him to India for kidney transplant. His family isn't educated and they sent him alone and without following the regulations of Ministry of Health, to communicate with the hospital first through the ministry and getting the approval that ensures the quality of the Indian Hospital. Sadly, the indian hospital sent him back a dead body with no abdominal organs!
