Catholicism has zilch to say about tattooing.

Also zilch about the way to comb your hair, the color of trousers to wear, which shoe to put on first and is also completely lacking in terms of hair colors, henna, hair removal, eyebrow shaping, bust and penile enhancement and shaving.

Although I would have to say, regarding Shai's point, that all kinds of disrespect of holy things is frowned upon.

If someone sought my sage advice on the matter, I would say putting "εν αρχη ην ο λογος" "In the Beginning was the Word" in that place is poor form indeed.

Woody, your morning beauty routine sounds like quite an event...

Morning Beauty Routine ?

Thats more like my bedtime beauty routine.

I didn't even mention waxing and related hirsute pastimes.

"Back, sack and crack" I believe they call it.

I haven't heard anything in Catholicism about it but agree with Jeff, depiction of holy things are frowned upon when tattooing. Personally I think that disfiguring yourself with such is utter nonesense.

Many Catholics priests condemn it together with piercing but there's no specific rule I guess

That's a maori tattoo. It's part of their culture. I see alot of them here with these types of tattoos on their face or body. Apparently it tells the story of their tribe and their life. I enjoy looking at them coz the curly designs are lovely!

Tattoos are really unique, but you have to make sure you get something meaningful, and you would never regret. That's why I still didn't get mine yet. :D

That's an interesting point. What if it was done as a sign of devotion and the tattoo itself resembled something in Christianity, be it a tattoo of a cross of some form or verses from the bible or even a tattoo of the claimed image of Jesus (PBUH)?

Would that make anything any better?

^Furthermore, would that be considered a sign of being a 'true Christian'? Do Christian preists encourage it?

priests do not encourage it lol.
it's not a sign of being a true christian either.
it's done cos people like Christ as an art form on their bodies.

I was actually asking cause some Copts from where I come from happen to have crosses tattoed on their inner wrist. And it's basically every adult Copt I've seen...so you get the idea.

For me if tattooing is part of the identity of the tribe I don't have a problem...that is tradition from years and years being handed down. I do have problems with women who get what I call ***** tattoos in their lower back. That is just totally out there.

The Ethiopian Copts (they don't like to be called Copts, but they are! :p ) often get a cross tatooed on their foreheads!

Funny, but the Ethiopian Christians are the most fanatically pro-Israel I have ever known outside American fundamentalists...

i prefer wearing my cross than having it inked on my body.
