it's really annoying and frustrating when you head to somewhere and you can't arrive on time.. i was 45 minutes late to my french class and that was because i was stuck in the main road waiting to move ten metres every half an hour. Everyone was going to the festival and you can see frowns on people faces who were apparenlty from their lips swearing.

the question is: what is the solution ? whenever we have an event, we get a problem for killing traffic jam ?

shouldn't the festival be somewhere away of the bustling places like al Qurm ?
or there should be more alternative streets ?

did you face this problem and what was your reaction ?

i think Qurm is a bad place for that

i mean sure it's good to have some activities in that park but not big ones.

ppl have been telling me about traffic jams since the fest started, now i hope that it wont affect my "going-out" activities :bored:

al Othaiba is a good place, yet it's kinda crowdy ...

everybody just complains but not once did anybody had anything nice to say about the road improvements done by the goverment. There is somuch construction going on and all this is done for you all who keeps complaining.

The festival should be stopped, there should be no festival anymore.

Father has one car
Mother has one car
little daughter has one car
big brother has one car
Other brother has one car
=
5 cars in one house!

each one of them will use his own car because he doesn't want to be obligued to the family plan (visiting time & period of staying...etc.).

The wonderful "new" way of life, everyone is in his own planet and it is still called "family".

I wish they made a restriction that each family use only one car. Back in these days it was a pleasure, now it is a curse. Big new sizable cars and one person only driving it.

Shame on how semi-educated people try to manage their life thinking they are smart to free themselves from any boundris or obligations. They also think that they are rich to have so many cars in the house. The pleasure of bing "money-holder".

Good. Good, and still time will come where there is no single road but busy with cars. Repeating the mistake of others who now decided to go for smaller cars and using bikes rather than bulky Trains.

We start from where others started, not from where they ended up!

i agree with you in this. many families have cars more than the family members themselves but i think every member has the right to buy a car. imagine if every one wants to go somewhere different

being late to doctors appointments, classes, gatherings bla bla bla... been there :mmhmm:

Solutions:

1) add more lanes: hah that will take another gazillion years
2) use a motor cycle: oh wait that'll look dumb and it'll take forever to reach your destination
3) public transport: yah if most of the people use the big huge buses to go to the festival then less cars will be used there for less cars in the road which means less time to waste
4) stay at home as much as possible to avoid the traffic :D

I agree with API really don't find it that bad!

maybe once or twice I faced it when there is something important going on but if i just go out 20 minutes earlier... i reach on time :) otherwise i use the alternative roads...

I just don't think it is that bad or maybe i just got used to it and learned how to adjust my time to it :cute:

I'm not sure if this is also applied this year or not, but last year the Municipality offered free bus rides for those who wanted to go to the festivals venues. I remember there were buses for people from Al-Sahwa tower to the Global Village in Athaiba, and I think also some other rides were offered from other points to other venues of the festival. This was done to prevent traffic jams and let people use public transportation for FREE! But if we count how many people used those free rides last year, it would be a very small number. Majority of people in Oman like to go to places in their personal cars. They don't accept the idea of using public transportation. Furthermore, four people from one house, would be going to the same place in FOUR different CARS. Nobody can deny that fact! I won't be surprised if the municipality stopped offering those free rides this festival, because probably they saw that nobody was using it last year and they would just be wasting money on nobody...

Why not use public transportation? and when it's offered for FREE during the festival?

The municipality always offers solutions and alternatives for everything, but do the people really use those alternatives or go by the municipality's instructions? Nope. They only know how to blame the municipality's chairman for everything. That's the only thing people do, instead of being thankful.

Complaints all the time and rarely any sign of thanks to the efforts that are being made. Really sad.

i don't find the traffic that bad, i avoid going out much during it anyways,
but what really really annoys me is how people end up blocking your garage just because they didn't want to park somewhere too far from where the festival is held, or couldn't find one. :bored:

sucks living close to the festival area.
but the fireworks make up for the agony :p
the fireworks on Thursday were just..

the public transportation is a really goo idea but yah unfortunately people tend to take their personal cars more. whic makes the service useless

complaining doesnt mean we are not thankful, it means we always want a better facilities to our country, it's much better than flattering some poor services which i call: hypocrisy.

I have been out two times near the festival locations. I didn't notice the jam, it was all normal.
