View Full Version : Photoshop CS3 Image format problem
Hey all.
I recently started working on Photoshop CS3 and I'm still kinda fresh in it.
Well, I'm facing a problem since yesterday and I'm so desperate already.. !
I want to know, how can I save my '.psd' format files to either '.jpg' or '.gif. files ?!
When I went to 'Save as' option, I didn't find those extentions !! I found many weirds ones !! 'PSB and Exp and others' ..
Can someone help me and tell me the steps .. I'll appreciate it.
:cute::cute:
Thanks in advance .. !

Before I give you the steps, you need to keep in mind that JPEG cannot be used for 16bit and does not accept layers, lab color and multichannel.
In CS3, while your image is open, click on IMAGE/MODE and select RGB and in the bottom select 8 bits/channel.
Click on LAYERS menu and select Flatten Image. Make sure you save a copy in PSD format before flattening, just in case you want to edit or add more layers later on.
Now you'll be able to Save As JPG from the Format drop down menu.
The same instructions apply for GIF files except the mode, should be set to Indexed Color instead of RGB, RGB will also save GIF's but the end image will have different colors than what you saw before saving. So make sure you set to Indexed Colors while editing GIF's.
Btw, CS3 is great as long as you learn how to use it along with the new features.
Kamakazy 26-01-08, 03:50 PM did you flatten the layers?

Nice work, forgot to mention, GIF's are limited to 256 colors, and using less than 256 will produce smaller file sizes.
Thx for offering me a combo, I need one so I'll let you know soon. :D
Oh yea .. I forgot to ask .. How to make the background 'Transperant' .. ?
I've chosen that option already, but still !! The background in my work is white.. ! :shy:
when u click "new" choose background as transparent in the window which opens up

I think your problem is when you flatten a transparent layer, if you want to maintain a transparent area then you should create a single layer and save in GIF format. Don't flatten.

I did that, but when I erase the area I don't want and I save my work, that area appears as 'white' blank !

The thing is when I erase an area I want, I erase it from the original picture.. Not in a layer, cuz when u make a layer, u can't erase anything from the pic, isn't that right ? :shy:
LOL .. this CS3 is way hard !!

When you open a singe layered image in photoshop, there will be no layers, instead you will see what is called "background" with a lock on the right side, you won't be able to erase with a transparent background unless you unlock it by double clicking on it in the layers palette. That will convert the background to a layer.

I know that, but when I want to erase something, I don't erase it from the picture I opened, but I do in my workspace which I set like 'New>Background set to 'transperant' .. There I drag the original pic and erase what I want, but instead of getting a transperant background, I get white one !
more detail, r u saving in the correct format? and is there a seperate layer ur working on? if so always delete the "background" layer. if not, can u get screenshots of ur procedure?
Another way is, just ditch CS3! lol i did and m happy with CS2
Khallas .. I knew how to work on it. ;)
Thanks, Unknown..
Riv, no thanks. ;)
