What do you think it takes to be a successful singer? And, do you think having a good voice is more important than being able to do a good performance?

Performance is important...but in order for you to be a singer you need to be able to SING...so I say that singing and having a powerful voice is more important than being able to perform or dance since that can be taught through the singer's career...

I care more about how creative it ca get, how you can play stuff, how u can match music with vocals...blabla

Hmm, you need to train your voice and you need to be a natural performer.

Usually dancing or playing an instrument gives it another edge or dimension..

Shakira comes to mind. She's got the voice, she can play and she can dance.

I used to train my voice a while ago.. but since I stopped doing that and practising, I've lost the abilty to hit the right notes everytime, especially if they are high.

Voice is important but it seems like nowadays its not enough, a singer should be good looking, has a good voice and creative! There are too many singers out there and shinning out from the rest is a mission since everybody wants 2 be seen and heard.

Oh ya, some shine but then they just disappear I think its because they kept repeating same ideas.

One thing to consider is that certain voices will suit certain music genres better than others. Another good thing is versatility...being able to control tone and pitch to blend in well with the song.

i think performance has become more inportant than the voice itself these days ...

and as phat said: creativity ...

i remember when Katharine Mcphee was auditioning for American Idol, Simon Cowell told her: what i like about you is that you are very current. as in you got what you need these days to win this competition. meaning, a powerful voice, the looks, the facial expression while singing, etc..

some people have amazing voices, but they never make it big in the industry..since people these days never appreciate great talents/music, they'd much rather an almost naked lady and some good beats. :D
