View Full Version : Moderators versus members

Moderators

Could you please inform us when you edit our topics, it would be kind if you just send PM to the member who shares the topic informing him that some modifications have been done to his topic.

I have some extent of agreeing with you ..
since Moderators are too busy to send to every edited post ..

it would be appreciable if an automatic message comes to you informing you about the modifications that have been done in your post ..

that would be reasonable ..

When members risk having their posts edited or removed, they know they do when they post it.

Some things are obvious.. like going off topic, being offensive or rude etc.. others are questionable.. but common sense should tell you that it most probably, or it might me edited/moved/whatevah.

Just use your common sense. :)

But what if someone opens a topic and gets locked because of the members... What is his fault?
I think the 1 who opens the topic should at least get a PM about what got deleted/edited and if it got locked he/she should be notified?

Thalia

I think sometimes we just look for ways to complicate our lives further.

I have never, ever been on any forum that notifies members by pm when threads posts or whatever are deleted, edited or moved.

I think we should just be greatful that the mods who spend their precious personal time cleaning our messes up are willing to keep doing so.

I agree with you on that, it's kind of annoying!

NicoBambi

So everytime we edit/delete a post we shall PM the member ?
We can't do that, just an example.. yesterday on the "tell what you like in the member" thread, i've deleted about 36 off-topics... shall i send 36 PMs ??
I can't, we got our life out of the sabla.
As for closing a thread, I send a PM.. generaly...

[AB]
17-01-08, 04:14 PM
yeah sending a PM to all members is not applicable at all .. it takes time!

i was saying .. if there is a way it can be informed automatically .. that would be good ..

Thanks guys

An automatic PM is a good suggestion I know it's inconvenient to recieve a messege everytime your post is edited but in the other hand it's a good technique to reduce the number of off-topics, isn't?

Any way I wasn't talking about off-topics, my complaint was about the changes done by a moderator in the main topic itself.

Maybe a hack.. admins will answer that ..
but from my point of view.. in a few weeks member will open a thread to disable this feature lol 'coz it's going to annoy them .. :hyper:
Personaly, when one of my post is deleted.. i know why .. as Thalia said, it's common sense.. :cute:

Samdawy, Which thread are you talking about ?

disabling the feature is their problem ..
this feature is on member's behalf anyway .. so its up to them!
they should be greatful anyway :cute: ..

You ask for too much I'm afraid to say. It's good enough that the mods find time to clean up what is actually an obvious mess, so sending a p.m to members about it would just be a hassle that I'm sure no one including myself would ever want to go through.

Sorry, I can't do that, it's not feasible

it would be kind if you just send PM to the member who shares the topic informing him that some modifications have been done to his topic.

I can't do that either for just "some" modifications as long as the thread exists, unless it's been moved or merged & I think the member won't be able to find it, though I always leave a temporary redirect for it

Thanks for your input

Samdawy, in that particular case, you can see that Braiki has edited them out, so when you know the mod that has carried out the modifications, you can contact him/her/it directly

so the main topic itself isn't change.

Ok a better idea, rep the member saying post edited. Of course a green one, so the member will feel the shame at least of being offensive/offtopic/rude, and was treated in a good way.

NicoBambi
17-01-08, 06:51 PM
well if we delete the post, the rep will be deleted as well..

means that i sometimes don't have the time, or even forgot :o

The excuses from the mods in this thread are just rubbish.

It's a forum. People talk. Everyone talk their own way, so stop killing the flow of conversation. If a member puts an effort into writing a post, a moderator should put equal effort in writing a little note saying "Let's talk about this".

Jeff
17-01-08, 09:54 PM
I never get these threads.

Do you really think that if you were a mod you could just run things fine and never disappoint anybody?

No matter what these guys do, people find something to complain about.

The other day, I poured my heart out in a long post. It got deleted! Well? So what? That's life. Mods have to make decisions.

ti3gib
17-01-08, 10:00 PM
But they don't have to chose wrong decisions.

Markov
17-01-08, 10:07 PM
I have a suggestion to the mods:

If you edit a post, let it show the :Edited by, so the member can then contact you and fight it out.

Same goes for Deleted By...

Jeff

I agree that a PM is bit too much, but I think leaving a msg saying the reason why deleted will be great.

Some times a moderator might miss-understand a members post and think its off-topic or so.When a moderator leaves the reason why deleted/edited then the member can PM the moderator and explain.

I can modify vBulletin forums. so im sure I can manage to add that pm feature

I just need a green light from an admin

As an ex-Mod, lol.

I remember that when I got the 1st reported post, first time I had to edit a post and the first time I deleted a post, I PM'ed the members. But then, it's too much work! Even sometimes I used to feel lazy to edit a post because I was too lazy to PM the member.

So, I think posting a reason in the same thread would be better.

Ah, I feel sorry for the mods!

19-01-08, 09:31 PM
What I think is really annoying isn't the whole deleting part. It's that for the possibly stupidest reason ever, they treat the post like trash and it's like their duty to pick it up.

I realize the analogy is a wii bit harsh, but that's how I see it.

You question him about his action, if you think his action was invalid & the reason for his action isn't satisfying, so then contact the administrators, as simple as that.

why was the thread titled 'mods vs members' anyway? it's not like all members are complaining. i totally agree with the user who said those pictures should have been put as attachments. i don't like seeing such pictures, and most of the day i have my children close to me as well.

if a man beats me up.....haha.
i'd do it 'gently' won't allow him to drown...just enough to 'get the message through' you know...gently gently...
