Check out what proportion of our oil comes from Mexico and Venzuela. And then check out the number of military bases we have in those countries.

Check out the amount of oil in Korea and Germany and Kosovo and Bosnia and compare it to the number of forces we have there.

This is a silly and shallow presentation.

But very nicely done! :)

It's not even accurate. The North American continent as well as Russia have much more known oil reserves than presented.

But regardless, so what if it's about the free flow of oil? Modern life around the world runs on it. The Middle East gets wealth because of it.

It benefits everyone.

It doesn't matter where your oil comes from, they're not trying to secure the oil for the sake of you and your SUV or whatever, it's about geopolitical power play on the "grand chessboard".

"Check out the amount of oil in Korea and Germany and Kosovo and Bosnia"

Well not much, as you can see on the map.

Where did the 1st graphic come from?

This graphic clearly shows the ME having 66% of proven oil reserves of a total of 98%. Add them up?

To start with where is the other 2%?

Proven reserves in order
1. Saudi Arabia
2. Canada
3. Iran
4. Iraq
5. United Arab Emirates and Kuwait
6. Venezuela
7. Russia
8. United States
9. Mexico

The graphic is flawed ... again where did you get this graphic?

I got it from another forum.

The other 2% is presumably scattered through the white countries on the map, in quantities too small to merit mention.

Ah PBS ...

The topic is showing the pro-war sablans that the Allied forces aren't the good guys.

Yes I do agree that PBS is notorious for showing the world the Allied forces aren't the good guys.

And that would not be a ... Coincidence.

That's my point.

You might also reflect on the difference between number of military bases and number of military personnel stationed there in peacetime, number of oil producing countries which host US bases, etc.

In the Arab world--Iraq apart--I believe we have BASES in two countries: Qatar and Kuwait.

And the more I look at the map of bases, the more bizarre it becomes.

Is there an American military BASE at Seeb International Airport in Muscat? :p

We closed our BASES in Saudi Arabia which still show up on the map.

Are there American military bases in Pakistan???????

Israel shows up in red (why?) which seems to indicate we have bases there (?). But no bases are marked and of course, we have no bases in Israel.

There doesn't seem to be any legend on the map to explain the symbols or the color coding...

I think alot of them are secret. Definitely in ALL the gulf countries for a start.

"Are there American military bases in Pakistan???????"

They've "commandeered" three Pakistani bases, so as good as yeah.

"Is there an American military BASE at Seeb International Airport in Muscat?"

Yep. Or nearby anyway.

If you wanna know why they're interested in Kosovo etc, it's a little tactic called encirclement.

Aye caramba!

That's not a very accurate map. For one this is a map of Bases and Military Exercises. These exercises are done in conjunction with the other governments and their militaries. Also, at least two of the 'bases' that are inferred (Panama and Puerto Rico) have been closed for some time now.

"Military exercise" can be a cover for "military base" when it comes to this region.

While U.S. officials, including Defense Secretary Rumsfeld, have denied Washington's interest in a permanent military base in Paraguay, the location of the exercises raise suspicions. The military base is 200 miles from the Bolivian border and almost as close to the country's natural gas reserves and fresh water aquifers. It is also close enough to Brazil to be threatening. In late July, the Brazilian army launched military maneuvers along its border with Paraguay, parallel to the arrival of U.S. troops in Paraguay.

Paraguayan denials that Mariscal Estigarribia is now a U.S. base have met with considerable skepticism by Brazil and Argentina . There is a disturbing resemblance between U.S. denials about Mariscal Estigarribia, and similar disclaimers made by the Pentagon about Eloy Alfaro airbase in Manta, Ecuador . The United States claimed the Manta base was a "dirt strip" used for weather surveillance. When local journalists revealed its size, however, the United States admitted the base harbored thousands of mercenaries and hundreds of U.S. troops, and Washington had signed a 10-year basing agreement with Ecuador .
