An all-new LS9 motor produces 620 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 595 pound-feet of torque at 4000 rpm. Delivering 100 horsepower per liter, the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 is mated to a close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox with a new high-capacity clutch designed for the increased power.

Ed Peper: "Better than the Porsche 911 GT2, the Ferrari 599 and even the Lamborghini LP640. In fact, the ZR1 is expected to be the first production Corvette to achieve a top speed of at least 200 mph."

The use of carbon fiber is pretty extensive throughout the ZR1. The wider fenders are made of the material, as are the hood, roof panel, roof bow, front fascia splitter and rocker moldings.

The matching Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires measure P285/30ZR19 in front and P335/25ZR20 in the rear. While Michelin's PS2 tires are offered on many vehicles, these were engineered specifically for the ZR1, GM says.

While the ZR1 is overall a more aggressive sports car than the Z06, it is actually less harsh over bumps, thanks to the MSRC technology.

It looks a lot like the Z06...and honestly if I was optioned between this car, a Ferrari 599 and the Lamborghini LP640 .. I'd definitely pick the vette in a heartbeat..love it!

Hmmm....quite pretty for an American sports car. Definitely some Italian design influences there....I quite like it, especially in that Aston Martin-like grey.

Better than a Ferrari or Lambo though? That's a big claim; I'd like to see it reviewed on a proper track test, because there is a tendency with US cars to put in a big engine but a suspension that handles like a shopping trolley. It's all those long, straight roads, see? No need for handling when there are no bends, and that middle aged accountant who's going to buy the thing wants a nice gentle ride for his haemhorroids.

Hope they have it on "Top Gear" to see how it looks in action :)

This is what I was waiting for. But I guess it's a year or 2 before the Z07 is released?

Any idea about the price?

AWESOME !

lightning: a Z06 can beat F430's and gallardo's and hangs with the murcielago ... so imagine what this could do :)

Lightning2
20-12-07, 09:23 PM
^^ ya it does that on papers :)

what i mean is .....the overall package.....power, reliblity, stability ,image......
the Z06 is realy fast but then ? is that every thing, look at the cheap interior to start with:) and u will know what i mean ......

a Z06 can beat F430's and gallardo's

Only if they are being driven in a straight line. By a chimpanzee.

Corvette ZR1 ... $71k

Lambo LP640 ... $350k

In fact you could buy 2 vettes and a decent home in my area for the price of 1 Lambo ...

This Vette is a good bang for the buck ...

corvette is a good car, also handles well, the Z06 review proved that.

Im sure this won't be like th Mustang GT500, just adding power, but would also be handled well etc.

it will definitely be cheaper than the competition because vettes are always cheaper than them italian supercars.

^^ but u can keeep the ferrari 4 ever!.....i bet the vette wont last 4 ten years....

Riv
21-12-07, 01:54 AM
r u kidding? the ferrari will be harder to keep than a vette! lol, look at the facts!

price, vette cheaper
more fun --> vette
repair cost --> vette cheaper
insurance price --> vette cheaper
fun factor --> vette higher to price ratio
design comparison --> about equal for the price ratio
Maintanence --> american can find parts easily,

lol if the engine of the vette breaks down, just get another crate engine and pop it in! the looks never fade, even the stingray nowadays looks soo classy

Riv

oh i add, u can keep the ferrari alive until u can, u will hope for it to not break down, but with the vette u can have endless fun without much fear of breaking down

Looks ridiculously good!
And its cheaper than a porsche/Ferrari which gives it an overall preference.

Exactly!

everyone should look at it from this point.

it has the same power (if not more) than the LP640, but look at the price tags difference!

lol that's why only rich (and i do mean RICH) people buy ferraries and lambos, cuz they wont get worried of it breaking down, they can afford all the costs u'v mentioned...

the ZR1 can fit the 2 catagories, the Super rich, and the normal rich...

i prefer an evo :)

looool wtf?! lol i also prefer a mazda 3 over the Evo :XD:

I prefer a GT-R :)

GT-R is closer to the Z06 not the ZR1,,,,
and with the Z06, it's a matter of preference, whether u want 0-60 and perhaps handling,,, or the looks, the status, and the row power on all speeds.
i would go with row power, not all races start from a dig ...:dev:

well....i mean the ferrari will last longer...:) those who buy super cars are not botherd about sare parts and insurance:).....if u can just look at sites that are talking about historical or classic cars.....u will see almost any Ferrari and in perfect condition...u cant say the same about vettes...mabey few sitng rays thats all.....most of the vettes produced in 80's and 90's are very cheap in material...if u get a used one it will be in a very bad shape...(i've seen many my self that includes C4,C5,zr1 and lingenfilter with almost 700hp)......

any way.....when u talk about exotics....vette doesnt belong to that class at all.......

First Drive!!!!!

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/19/autoblog-first-drive-2009-corvette-zr1/

no numbers yet :bored:

but a nice review, i liked those 2 quotes:

Unlike most engines, the ZR1 doesn't really have a torque curve. It's more like an electric motor -- massive torque is everywhere. In fact, it has so much twist you almost don't need shift.

The ZR1 may well be the best supercar bargain in the world, while at the same time being as mechanically sophisticated as any of the best supercars from Europe or Asia.

They will sell it in Oman?

AMARANT

lol i doubt they will bring it to oman ...

and ppl buy Z06's for around 30K from UAE, so im guessing this will be kinda higher, Maximum 45K Rials??

Edmunds test of the ZR1 was horrible, they got the same numbers they got for the Z06, wtf???

but Motor trnd had kinda good numbers, 3.4 seconds 0-60...
