Red Bull pulls nativity ad (http://www.reuters.com/article/oddlyEnoughNews/idUSN0447928720071204?feedType=nl&feedName=usoddlyenough)

An angry Italian priest has persuaded soft drinks company Red Bull to withdraw an advertisement setting its product in a nativity scene on the grounds it is disrespectful to Christianity.

I find it disrespectful

A line has to be drawn somewhere. Some people might say oh it is okay no worries but then if their religion is put into the same position then man...see the fireworks explode. So as a Catholic I find this ad retarded.

Marianna, where should the lines be drawn exactly according to you?

NOOOOOO ads AT ALL for poking fun at anyone's religion. Period. How would you feel if there was a commercial out there depicting a holy figure from your religion in a compromising way wouldn't that make you angry????? It sure as hell makes me mad.

Thanks for the reply.
They should remove it and then,

They should apologize to Christian community as well as to Church.
Don’t you fell that is the correct and logical solution?

If they don’t do it what do you suggest, Respected Lady?

There should be an apology because when other religions are poked fun of then an apology sometimes is ensued. I feel the same right should be given to Catholics. Personally I am tired of the way my religion is portrayed in Hollywood. It gets old.

Freedom impose responsibility, civic sense don’t advocate to other core feelings.

I agree having freedom means being responsible with it.

The way the priest handled it is the way we should ALL handle it.

You don't need a law.

All you need is pressure.

These companies respond to pressure from customers and potential customers.

Imagine if the Danish paper which had published those cartoons had been met with a campaign against its advertisers?

You call up all the advertisers in the paper and say, "We are organizing a boycott against all products that advertise in this paper until the paper gives us an apology. Please call the paper and let them know that you will not be advertising in its paper in the future unless there is a public apology. Or we will put you on a boycott list for Muslims."

This sort of thing gets done all the time and it's simply wonderful how it works.

And Muslims, Christians, Jews and others should band together.

Not against reasonable discussion...even discussion we don't like.

People don't have to agree with our religions and they can make whatever criticisms they want.

But against MOCKERY. No need to MOCK and USE FOR JOKES etc.

Marianna, you can't control the media in a free country

Do you think the freedom of speech includes the freedom to offend?

Some say the freedom of speech IS the freedom to offend.
I believe that freedom of speech is the freedom of criticism and criticism in general is supposed to be practised within the limits of politeness, especially when it is speaking to the most sacred feelings of millions. And that can only be established when people not only should they stop and think when their religion is mocked but that mocking religions in general SHOULD be stopped. So going and saying, 'Well we had other RedBull ads about Buddists and they didn't say anything' for example, is pointless because it's not like Christians agree with that either I assume, and so there should never be a double standard.

^ By that logic we should outlaw all mocking of everyone and everything. If groups of people and their beliefs have the 'right' to stop anyone making fun of them then that right must extend to individual people and their beliefs.

My sacred belief is that the internet is controlled by a race of magic pixies who spray invisible pixie dust of power on whoever wins message board debates, don't make fun of me or I'm calling the cops.

I don't know that Threadlike said we should have a legal recourse. But I don't see why we shouldn't have economic recourse. "We, the large group of Pixiites, don't like what you print. Respect us in future of we will cause trouble for your sponsors."

That seems quite reasonable to me.

I'm not sure we have to pretend anyway that the natural way of makind is simply for each individual to make up a religion. T'aint so.

Though the kind of thinking that's buzzing in the air these days... All the more reason to be suspicious of it.

Shai, I meant try to stand against it as INDIVIDUALS.
Whether the masses of individuals see it necessary for law to be involved, it would be up to them.
