View Full Version : Dodge Challenger is Now Official
Rossonero 06-12-07, 10:20 PM Just so you know, Dodge started the Pre-Orders for the Dodge Challenger which was a concept.
5,000 will be made but yesterday I've read that 6,000 have been ordered. You can even get it from e-Bay!
4,300 people put down deposits when Dodge opened ordering on Monday. A total of 6,000 orders have come in since then. If Dodge sticks to its claim of only producing 5,000 Challengers for 2008, then several of those orders will have to wait a year before taking delivery.
All of the Challengers ordered will come in the SRT8 variant sporting a 6.1-liter Hemi V8 and a five-speed automatic transmission. Three colors are available - black, silver, and HEMI orange, the latter of which was the color of choice for more than half the orders. Deliveries will start in the Spring of 2008.
By the way, the real production car will be presented in the Chicago Auto Show in February 2008.
Here are the pre-sell brochure pictures that were presented earlier this week:

What sucks is that all the ones in the first batch are 5-speed Automatic. Muscle cars are more enjoyable when they are Manual. But I guess the second batch will be 6-Speed Manual Dual-Clutch.
Dam3eti 06-12-07, 10:23 PM even though i'm not a fan of this car, the normal one looks better than the concept :s
The concept 1 looks like those old cars you see in old American movies lol :p if u know wht i mean.
CompulsiveWaves 06-12-07, 10:31 PM Wow! its a really nice car dude! i love it
NiGhTFaCe 07-12-07, 12:46 AM I was reading about this yesterday. Dodge made great job with this, not like the Charger.
Spanarr 07-12-07, 12:51 AM This looks pimpin' and old school. Not my type, as in I wouldn't drive that car. Yet.
Dam3eti 07-12-07, 01:27 AM ohh it's called a challenger?
LOL okay so it's different from the charger.. I don't like it then.
I was reading about this yesterday. Dodge made great job with this, not like the Charger.
Excuse me ?

*shrugs and dies*
Rossonero 07-12-07, 06:33 AM If this car got up to 6,000 orders, then how would the Camaro do? I mean that car has a convertible option, looks much better, similar horse-power and I guess will have the LS3 Corvette 6.0L Engine.
This car is another reason I'd go for a Camaro ;)
What's up with all car-manufacturers and this Orange color?
Love the SRT8 badge. Looks Sexy on the car.
AMARANT 07-12-07, 09:52 AM and I guess will have the LS3 Corvette 6.0L Engine.
Rosso the LS3 is a 6.2L
--------------------------------------
the car doesnt look bad in my opinion, but it's soooooo retro, did dodge even consider the aerodynamics just a little bit??
the Mustang and the Camaro did a better job, the old look in a modern way...
but with the challenger, dodge will manufacture a new car with the same old look (about 90% of the old look)
-------------------------------------------
i still hope it will be better than the charger :mmhmm:
It looks very classic to me...couldn't they come up with something a bit more contemporary ? Hmm there's something tacky about it...at least the Charger looks modern and up to date. Black would look good on this car. Anyho0o it's the performance that counts, I mean 6.1 L is not little!
Lightning2 07-12-07, 11:32 AM goood news....loooking forward to see one:):)
netlover 07-12-07, 11:35 AM The car looks really good and Dodge did a great job pricing it at $38,000 (Approx RO 15,000). If the price was more people would go for the GT-R instead which is more powerful.
Amazing car though.
NiGhTFaCe 07-12-07, 02:53 PM Dodge did a great job pricing it at $38,000 (Approx RO 15,000).
If it will be here with the same price, so then its something to consider for sure.
AMARANT 07-12-07, 05:07 PM I'm 90% sure it's gonna cost more than just 15K here in oman ...
Rossonero 07-12-07, 06:15 PM It will get up to 18k I guess. Can't wait to get the interior pics.
NiGhTFaCe 07-12-07, 08:31 PM This is if the car reaches here, since the production is limited! :p
Rossonero 08-12-07, 11:15 AM Now Dodge is saying it could build and sell up to but not more than 10,000 Challengers in 2008, though only a Limited Edition version of the SRT8 model with the five-speed automatic will be offered.
After that, Dodge will add the other Challenger models available with the 5.7L HEMI and 3.5L V6. Production will eventually reach beyond 30,000 units per year.

netlover 13-01-08, 11:17 PM ^ Doesnt look special in that pic.
Lightning2 13-01-08, 11:22 PM liked the pic !!!!,,,,,nice looking car
UnorthodoX 14-01-08, 06:42 PM classic riveting challenger, just wow
Frozen_Hell 15-01-08, 05:09 PM i love that car!
It looks too vintage...I'm not digging it at all! Maybe it's cause the pic isn't clear.
I kind of like it...but then I would probably like a vintage one more than this one. The Charger also had some old-fashioned styling cues from the 70s...remember the Dules of Hazzard? Hehe...anyway...I'm not totally convinced by this retro thing, and I can see why it might be too odd for some people's taste. But then I wouldn't mind one I guess...
AMARANT 16-01-08, 12:40 AM i just watched dukes of hazard today!
now im loving the challenger more :D

im liking the car more!
Elvenblade 16-01-08, 09:42 AM wow
stunning
kudos to dodge for an amazing design
Rossonero 16-01-08, 10:28 AM This is one of those cars that would look much better in Reality than in pictures. The rims look great.
netlover 16-01-08, 10:42 AM This is one of those cars that would look much better in Reality than in pictures. The rims look great.
I beg to differ. It looks even crappier in reality than it does in the catalog. Infact, this is the first car (to me) that looks uglier in reality than the catalog.
But then again its American so I'm not surprised.
Ladies and gentlemen,
we have facials (http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-dodge-challenger-srt8/).
I think it's the best remake or a retro car.
Rossonero 17-01-08, 12:58 AM Ladies and gentlemen,
we have facials (http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2009-dodge-challenger-srt8/).
I think it's the best remake or a retro car.
It isn't, the Mustang surely is!
NiGhTFaCe 17-01-08, 01:17 AM How simple the look it is, for sure a classic muscle!
AMARANT 17-01-08, 02:58 AM no offense but that's too retro
im not saying it looks bad, it looks good, but too much retro
the mustang is a better transformation, then the charger, till now! (waiting for the camaro)
Retro as opposed to what ? ... Contemporary ? .. No such thing Amarant because the direction of automakers is the signature fuchsia rather than contemporaneous. Dodge is one of the few mainstream manufactures set out to give an identity for each car, rather than different specs for the same car.
And this Challenger is a prime example of that. While other automakers took compromises to make their beloved names more rounded -literally- for the mainstream, Dodge sticked to it's guns and made something very original (the original meaning of original, not the new one).
Amongst car lovers. This car is going to be huge, amongst household owners. Maybe, and maybe not.
AMARANT 17-01-08, 04:02 AM to each his own Ti3
if i want a car that has this look, would take an old car and slap some hemi to it.
otherwise would take a car that has a nice cmbination between the modern and retro look...
just my opinion...
Rossonero 17-01-08, 04:17 AM no offense but that's too retro
im not saying it looks bad, it looks good, but too much retro
the mustang is a better transformation, then the charger, till now! (waiting for the camaro)
Charger? Common..The charger is supposed to be 2-door..MANUAL (Yah If you want to feel the American Muscle). Not a 4-door petrol sucking car that handels like a boat.
The Camaro will sure own them all with the Mustang.
AMARANT 17-01-08, 04:25 AM ^^ i meant the design rosso
to me the design idea of it is more appealing than the challenger (which i like the old design more)
Rossonero 17-01-08, 04:27 AM The old Charger design is better. The new one looks like a Goat.
the only about the challenger which impresses me is the power, i don't like the design at all, it just looks like a goat as rosso said. I'm even not so sure for Camaro, all the retro stuff just freakin' out all designers nowadays where the Mustang sticks to its roots.
Challenger would look more apealing if it was designed in a thinner solid way, not this bulky! This looks good on 4-door like the Charger!
BTW Mustang wid glass roof is introduced :D that comin to Oman?
NiGhTFaCe 17-01-08, 08:15 PM Riv, Rossonero was talking about the Charger as a goat & not the Challenger. By the way, we can mention other cars for a comparison. But, please don't drift the topic into talking about another car.
The thing about the Charger, Ross is that I think Chrysler had started thinking about the Challenger before releasing the Charger. They had a civillian car and wanted it to market well (which it did superbly) and so they slapped the Charger badge on it, and kept some of the old charger features (The honey comb grille on the R/T, and world famous Charger fin).
They said look, we're gonna take the car that we built as the Charger, and make it a Challenger. Simply because, marketing wise, their distributive plans for the Charger were broader than those for the Challenger.
Frozen_Hell 22-01-08, 05:42 PM i just watched dukes of hazard today!
now im loving the challenger more :D
hey dude isnt the car in dukes of hazard a 1969 dodge charger???

NiGhTFaCe 28-01-08, 01:06 AM A spy shot for the interior.
http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/challenger_int_drivers02.jpg
I don't know why the interior is even worth leaking ? ...
I mean a stupid dipshit would know that it would be the standard Chrysler interior. It's in every car.
netlover 28-01-08, 02:38 AM argh its soo...... American..
Screw this car man lol
NiGhTFaCe 07-02-08, 05:03 AM The first drive of the Dodge Challenger SRT8,
http://www.caranddriver.com/previews/14583/first-drive-2008-dodge-challenger-srt8.html
The Dodge boys forecast 4150 pounds, which is just 62 pounds lighter than the 300C. With the same 6.1-liter Hemi V-8 (425 horsepower, 420 pound-feet of torque), the same five-speed automatic, and the same final drive, and the same tires, drag strip numbers figure to be pretty much the same, too.
same engine as the 300C?? This is dissappointing. I thought the Challenger would be unique but just like all Cryslers, they have the same car underneath, just name and body difference, and what interests me most is what's under the hood of a car, like the Mustang!
Rossonero 08-02-08, 09:15 PM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiX6TfnF_OI
Enjoy the vid ;)

http://www.caranddriver.com/previews/14583/first-drive-2008-dodge-challenger-srt8.html
interesting
the tires setting r so huge! they take almost half the car! :p
but it looks great...
the numbers r good somehow, but still not as expected...
hopefully better numbers will show later...
nice vid, over all it looks fantastic!!
NiGhTFaCe 01-05-08, 07:44 PM And a short take road test,
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/hot_lists/high_performance/muscle_cars/2008_dodge_challenger_srt8_short_take_road_test
It's growing on me...prettier than the new Charger. I don't like the "GT" style stripes though...looks better in a solid colour. I'd love to see a supercharger inlet in the hood too...to give it that real retro-muscle look!
But..it does look nice...I especially love the simple lines on the front...pure 70's :)
AMARANT 08-05-08, 12:33 PM the car is amazing me more n more everyday
now here is something interesting: the SRT8 can come with a performance package that can calculate 0-60, 1/4 mile, 60-0 and G-force numbers
stunning!

i love the color too;)
AMARANT 14-05-08, 01:18 AM any news if it's coming to Oman??
Depends if Zubair wants to bring it or no...........
It will be nice seeing Challenger on streets along with its rival the Camaro
Fast_HacKinG 15-05-08, 01:15 AM Not something I dream to drive, 'cause I'm not a fan of american cars!
shakelha '3abi ( looks stupid)
