I think there is no medical term for that. Jaundice or as we call it (ابو صفار) in Arabic.

Symptoms of Jaundice: fever, yellow skin color, fatigue, exhaustion, loss of appetite, abdominal pain or discomfort, nausea and vomiting.

The illness usually lasts for couple of weeks as I heard. Or it depends on the person.

Now,… most of the people go for this someone who will cut their skin behind the ears for recovery.

In my opinion, what the ….?? I mean why anyone wants to get his ears cut? It’s NON medical. I believe, or let’s say I want to believe that people can get recover without any treatment. Just give it some time. I’m posting this thread because I think I’m going through some of these Symptoms, I dunno maybe I just feel that. :(

What do you think guys? Has anyone experienced jaundice? And what was the reason behind it? Please share..

PS: I heard that a person can get jaundice more than once in life, So let me get this straight,.. you start cutting your ears then legs, then arms (as I heard)… will end up cutting in weird places lol.:D (no seriously:os)

Its first time I hear Jaudaince is healed by cutting the skin behind the ear. I know in infants, its healed by exposing them to sun light to get vitamin D.

I've heard about exposing infants to sun light to treat certain symptoms such as yellowish pale skin and yellowish eyes which I think can be attributed to jaundice. I haven't heard about cutting the skin behind the ear or the ear lobes though. However I guess I know where all the cutting is coming from, you probably owe it all to traditional medicine and all it's weird treatments. Besides cutting, there's also branding (وسم) of certain body parts to treat different symptoms or illnesses.

In Arabic it's called "Yaraqaan", the term you used is a local term & not a medical one

Why would people do that? Because of ignorance & overvalued ideas

Jaundice is a result of hyperbilirubinemia which means increased bilirubin in the blood stream & as a result you notice the yellow colour of the sclera & mucus membranes

What causes it?

There are three causes:
1- Pre-hepatic
2- Hepatic
3- Obstructive

So if anyone had it, it's the result of one of the above, under each category there is a large list of conditions

PS: I heard that a person can get jaundice more than once in life

A person can even get it lifelong, depending on the type

For example, under the 1st category mentioned above, which is the pre-hepatic, you have a condition known as sickle cell anaemia which is not uncommon in Oman, some of the patients suffering from this illness always have jaundice because of haemolysis

P.S. Jaundice is not a disease
