I heard from my mother that this form of cancer, cervical cancer, can only happen if a woman is sexually active, and it is usually triggered by a male sexual partner who is not "clean" - I don't know how it transmits to the woman, but I was told it might be through a virus or bacteria carried by the man. I am ignorant on this issue, so please do clarify if that is true or not.

Extending from that, should a woman who is not sexually active get vaccinated or is it pointless? Can a woman who has never had sex get cervical cancer? Are they side effects if one does get vaccinated, either if she is sexually active or not? Or it is best to be safe than sorry, so she should get vaccinated anyways since one day she could be sexually active?

Do advise

So other factors contribute to cervical cancer other than sexual contact, but it is mostly through that. So my question still stands.

Doctors Hitman, wohooo?

As a woman I would say yes. Even a virigin it should be done. Better safe than sorry down the road. Other risk factors besides sex should never be ruled out.

Lym, this vaccine is a breakthrough that will save numerous lives, a vaccine against HPV is a vaccine against cancer, take a look at the following thread:

So you think it's a good idea to give to teenagers?

You know how it is when something is 'new'... they find some horrible side effect 10 years down the line..

What are the disadvantages of the shot, hitman?

No doubt about that, they are among the ones at highest risk when it comes to unwanted pregnancies & STD's

No drugs or vaccinations are without side effects, serious immunological reactions can result from the vaccine & other side effects are minor, there have been few death reports though, but overall it should be a safe vaccine.

But I am not with a universal vaccination program for the teenagers as yet

Thanks Hitman. Then it is on my to-do-list since the government here is campaigning to women about free vaccinations for cervical cancer and I was just wondering whether I should get it. It seems like a good idea :)
