Hello guys, for those who know about what panadol made of (the pain killer)
I'd love to know how exactly it releases the headache you feel, I'm not asking if it works or not am asking about how it works .. about how it reacts and what is it made of.

Thanks

What I know is that there are different compounds of Paracetamol mixed with other substances. Those additives make them act faster and stronger.

Like for example Panadol Extra (the red pack) is 500mg paracetamol along with 65mg caffeine while Panadol Ultra has the same amount of paracetamol with 12.8mg of codeine.

This brings up a question though ...
What has caffiene to do with pain? Does it act as a painkiller as well? Or does it have that effect only with it's mixed with paracetamol?

I never heard of Panadol until Rosey started talking about it! :p

I wonder if people use it much in America...

Who uses it in Oman and for what?

Do you guys use aspirin, acetominiphen (Advil), ibuprofen, etc.?

Jeff...
Panadaol (normal) is mainly 500mg of Paracetamol. Just another marketing name for paracetamol :)
Usually people use Panadol for Headaches, it's a painkiller anyway...
and yes we do use aspirin, Advil and ibuprofen ...

I am not a big fan of drugs, myself... I rarely use them and when I do, I go for normal Panadol.

Well, I've never heard of it and I don't think anyone I know uses it.

I believe you and it certainly seems popular in Oman.

I think so ....
Actually we didn't use to have Advel here in Oman a number of years back ...
I remember that people used to bring it with them from the states and some used to ask people to get it from them from there! :p

I have it divided in my mind this way:

Aspirin for fever...nothing better.

Tylenol for muscle pains.

Ibuprofen for periods.

But Panadol is new to me! I'll have to ask for it when I go to Eckerd's next time...

Same medication, different brands and dosage, Rosey ...

I was going to say that Tylenol is acetaminophen and Panadol is Paracetamol, but you're right!

It turns out that those two chemical names are really just alternate ways of naming the same chemical!

Now I know exactly what Panadol is! Not so popular here anymore. Because Ibuprofen is better for your period and not so dangerous.

Panadol can cause problems with your kidneys if you take too much of it. So watch out, Rosy! Don't overdo it...

I rarely use Panadol. In fact, I've never even bought a pack on my own, and we don't have it at home. I prefer Ponstan or Olfen.

here when we goto the govt. health center, with any sickness, the docs give us Adol, which is Panadol, this makes me not go to hospitals anymore when I have any fever or anything.

Jeff, it comes with different commercial names. But basicaly it's composed of parasetamol if I'm not mistaken.

(p.s I wasn't that bad in Chemistry  )
